I have been before so I know the layout. With that said. I made a copy of the map, picked a few spots, so when I got the call, I could ask about price and if available. It was very helpful. KOA was happy that I had done my research and he could just see what was what. I will point out that the main event has been in the area of tent spots t21-t22. I also looked at the bathhouse location. These are things I looked at, so I could walk to each. I have heard that the food truck guy from last year is now cooking for KOA. Less food for me to pack!
Thank you! This is all very helpful.
As a newb I wouldn’t be upset if I was in the back, I just wanna be there!

Do a lot of people cook breakfast and dinner at their campsite every day? Or are there opportunities for some group meals?

I have cooked at my campsite but also have had dinner in town, several nice places to eat and wander around, even ice cream!

We do plan to have breakfast burritos available again this year, I just need to confirm. Hoping the food truck is back and not just the restaurant. Last year the food truck wanted to provide lunch in wraps to go for the trail.
I’ll find out what will be available in the food department. But last year I ate very little of the food I took cause there were plenty of options onsite. And plenty in Ouray and only minutes away from camp.

Also, the food truck did open up for dinner and hand some of their specials available. I think once they figured out we have lots of hungry mouths that they could make more money than we had originally thought.

I guess I forgot town was so close :).

Definitely want ice cream. Don’t usually have that camping.

That sounds great. And typical. Overpacking is one of my spiritual gifts, right behind jumping to conclusions.

Relative to a post above, I’m wondering if it’d make sense to allow reservations in order of registration, but also with tenure/years attended in mind.
Thought of this as a newb that was registered in 10 minutes of opening but hasn’t got a call yet, just happy to be on the list.

It’s really interesting how far down the list you are even with registering 10mins in… around 1/3, the computer system generates the list accordingly. We sold out in less than 1 1/2 hrs… Lots of ppl registering asap… we also have some sponsors that get first dibs and some vips/volunteers that we need there… also we had the hiccup of the list being backwards to start us off with…oops.
I’m not sure I’m a fan of booking koa according to how you registered. In the past ppl would either call right after booking SAS and some would wait till the last minute. Just depends on the individual. I do like the list as the koa know who is registered with SAS and don’t have to play a guessing game, that is easier for them.

We’ll get it to smooth out… it is getting easier and easier as we organize a little more each year.
This is our first year to do it this way, with the list and them calling you.

Love the feed back and questions, really! It helps.

Last year the food truck down be registration was popular. Get the KOA app and like Jim said, sign up for rewards. Map is in there although I hear it’s not completely updated.

Normally lunch in town/trail and dinner at camp.

Kansas City boys will be cooking up all kinds of stuff during the week. Likely have the WSM loaded up w/ pork butts brisket & sausages…crab cakes were a hit last year! Come on by 32,33,44&45

Yum!!

Knowing we have the whole KOA blocked for our event until 4/1 there are plenty of spots available. The deluxe cabins are full so look into camping cabins, tent sites and the electric sites. Know what you want first then have a second option available if your first is unavailable so forth. Also, most of the tent spots in the back are booked…

It also depends on the days of the week you want to book, most stay Sunday - Saturday.

This is our first year having KOA call you guys and I do know that it’s been confusing and a little messy in the past when we did not have it blocked off for SAS and having us call them, their phone system only allows so many messages, etc. Maybe next year we have on our registration a few options like, do you want to stay at the koa, what days, tent/rv/cabin and see how that flows… And Maybe next year we can have more info on hand to help answer those questions.

Most have stayed at the KOA before and know where they want to be but those who have not should check out their website/map and pricing.
They might be offering a discounted pricing for our group, I am not positive though.
And because it is blocked off for our group there is no way to check their availability map… so give a little and take a little I guess.

If you miss their call and receive a voicemail, you are then welcome to call them back so I would not fret much on missing the call. They are also making calls on the weekends.

I hope this helps…
Each year it’s getting easier and easier… it should be at least. 😊
This is very helpful. Thank you very much for taking the time to post this info.

It might be preferable to be in the back, especially given how close to 550 those front spots are. Either way, you have your priorities aligned with mine.

#1: where to get ice cream
#2: get the Cruiser running
#3…
#4…
#50: find a place to sleep

This map is very helpful. I was trying to find this on their website and I didn’t think to download the app. Thank you.

I registered 15 minutes after registration opened and I was half way down the list. Not sure in what order there calling people but KOA called today around 11am and I have a site. This will be the fifth year in a row that my wife & I have attended. Don't know if that came into play.

This sign-up and registration is done entirely by volunteers. I can't thank them enough. It takes a lot to get this organized and we have gotten better and more efficient each year.
The first three years all of registration was done through email, paper and pen. It was a whole lot of time to get it all sewed together. I never wanted to be booking places for people to stay for the week but the need arose and partnering with KOA is hopefully making it easier for folks to get a spot. With the majority of the campground being SAS folks and the size of the area folks won't be to far from anyone in a LandCruiser.
If someone needs to cancel their registration please reach out to us asap via PM or an email to solidaxle2018@gmail.com. No refunds after May 15. Waitlist people will be contacted in the order recieved. We don't play favorites and I'd enjoy seeing everyone there but it just gets very busy for us to manage. It's our vacation too albeit a working one.
So please relax a bit. KOA will contact you about your reservation needs. We have several months before this week is public access at KOA.
I'd like to thank @80Lady , @Mesa Woman , @mesa man , @BombCity , @CenTXFJ60 and @ThatKOAGuy for getting year 9 rolling and planning behind the scenes put into action.
Again, please feel free to PM any of those mentioned above with questions.
Stay warm out there folks.
Casey..

If this is your 1st time attending SAS, dont be afraid to ask questions. Yes, you may get a few smart a$$ responses and a few of these🍿🍿🍿 (atleast I did my 1st year) but this is a great group and in the end everyone hopes everyone else has as great of time as they do.

I remember one of the original questions I asked is if people from states outside of CO actually drive their 40’s to SAS or if they are all trailered…. I think that was a 10 🍿question. In hindsight it was a pretty dumb question, but I was naive and as the saying goes… you dont know what you dont know.

My 40 is mostly a trailer queen lol.

I don't like a lot of highway miles on soft tires, tho.
