Did a few things done on Saturday . I adjusted valves again. I was getting paranoid that I was hearing a rod knock. confirmed it was NOT rod knock but just pushrod noise thankfully. I did the adjustment first by ear while it was running sound went away and it was a pushrod on cylinder 5. After I confirmed that I adjusted with the correct valve lash by doing the old TDC and using this chart I found on mud. pretty good chart! runs like a sewing machine now.

I rust converted and painted the air cleaner lid. added the sticker from city racer. Looks nice. Random but anybody know where I can buy the oem wingnuts for the air cleaner? Additionally I am guessing the air horn is unubtanium? It would be nice to have that part too.

I know I purchased a couple from another vendor, can't remember where though.

Mr T still sells the wing nut, not sure if it's like the original-Toyota 94270-00800 Nut, Wing.
Thanks! I can find the part now. I think redline has them but I wanted a part number to shop around.

Soft top update! finally cleared customs after constant emails to fedex customs people. says it will be delivered tomorrow but I doubt that. but at least its on the move again. was sitting in customs since the 20th of May.

Never saw that chart before. Sweet. Thanks for sharing!

There are various wing-nuts versions out there for air cleaners... 90175-06003 says for 7/1978-90 Cruiser air cleaner. $1.79 from the Mr. T shop I use (and what I put on mine).

Part number 90175-06026 is for 1974-7/1978 - but you also need the lower grommet/seal - 90210-09026 as well. more almost $7 at Mr. T's just for the wing nut.

Toyota Parts Deal has good pictures -
90175-06026 ('74-1980)
90175-06003 ('75-1990)
not a good pict for the 94270-00800 ( for years 1969-1980) part @firemanj92 posted. $3.39 at Mr. T's. I don't know if that design also needs the seal or not either. I would guess yes.

Curtesy of a @Green Bean post on my thread - this link goes to the air cleaner diagram for 1976-1980 2F engine... Engine - 17-03

All depends on the look you're after and price to a degree. If I remember right your rig is from the '60's with a 2f - so the 94270-00800 would be a blend of both time periods. Or just want function at lowest cost, the x-06003. My unsolicited opinion.

Congrats on getting your top through customs!

Edit: yes I am a nerd. Just wanted to say that before Ian points out the obvious.

Warning: Not land cruiser related but designed around the same time period as the fj40 and its a product of japan. I just picked up a really cool camera. Its a nikon s3 millennium edition. (meaning it was made in the year 2000). it also came with a couple of lenses. one of witch dates to about 1964. cant wait to shoot this bad boy this summer. you bet some fj40 pics will come out of this guy too.

That's the nicest looking air cleaner I've ever seen! ;) Proud to see it migrate from my rig to yours...

Stumbled across this thread and read through all 68 pages. I am impressed with everything you have accomplished in a relatively short time. Inspiring to me to get moving on working on my own FJ40 thats been neglected for way to long
Actually saw you cruiser when I was out on Ocracoke last September for a couple of days. If I had known who owned it I would have looked for you said hello. My wife and I have been visiting Ocracoke since the late 90's. Some years ago we happened across an art show at a gallery and ended up buying a painting you did.

Small world

Its a freaking birthday miracle! what a great bday gift for my Soft top to actually to show up haha. also for amusement look at the first date then the last date on shipping.

Hey Thanks! Its been alot of work but once I get fixing somthing I cant let it go until its fixed. Next time you are in town please let me know! I love to talk land cruiser with people. And thats awesome that you bought one of my pieces! witch one did you end up with? I am actually planning on having a photography show in Manteo NC this fall too. I gotta get back into painting though. I am hoping to this winter find some time to paint again.

I ended up with this one, I checked and we were there for the week of July 4th in 2017 when we got the picture. Think I may have a picture of you from the parade .

Next time we are headed down I will certainly let you know before hand. We usually head there for a long weekend in late September. It wont happen this year, I'm going to SW Florida around that time to go Tarpon fishing.

My wife got me a pretty cool Birthday gift. Check out this oem toyota jerry can and mount. I am stoked on this. Any suggestions on where to mount it? I could get the license plate bracket and lights for the front of the mount so I can mount it on the back barn door. the down side is if I do that I think I will have to cut off the current license plate bracket thats original. I know that the salt wagon at one time had two jerry cans mounted above the kick vents. That might be cool but I wont do that if I am notable to fold the wind shield down still. I am open for suggestions!

I got my soft top unpacked yesterday and I could not resist taking it out to check it out. the quality of the top itself is above and beyond what I expected. its really nice. Now the pillars and top door jams (cant remember what thats called) will need some work. I will post pictures but its the same exact fitment issues that @KennyBob has posted about. the twist locks are garbage but its all stuff that I did not plan on using. I am disappointed in the footman loops they provided. I will be replacing those. the nuts and bolts all seem really nice however. I will be posting more pictures as I start working on it and assembling it.

I think that might have been my second art show maybe first. I remember that series of paintings I did one of my favorites for sure! Thats such a small world thing and so random! And yes at the family surf shop we do a parade float every year so you probably did see me there. I appreciate you sharing its not often I get to see one of my sold paintings as they go off the island.

that florida trip will be fun too though! anyways please do stay in touch!

What a cool birthday gift. Kudos to her!

What I plan to do is make a mount that goes on my tire carrier through the wheel hub to Hold me a Jerry can. I did it on my 100 and it was really nice to have it when I wanted and when I didn’t you just pop the center cap back in..

Not sure how the oem tire carrier would like the extra weight on yours but on mine it’s getting a build carrier so I don’t have to worry about it.

That’s an awesome present. I’ve got the can as well but not the holder. I’ve been wanting to snag one and attach it somehow as well. I like the idea of hanging it on the tire carrier but I’m concerned the weight might be too much on the factory carrier. Especially with the added weight of the Kendas.

Such a cool gift! Love your 100 @clrussell Yeah I am thinking I am not going to do the tire carrier I worry about the weight of that tire allready. I am try to go for a more oem look. I know the earlier can carrier that city racer has does not have the bolts that hold on the license plate braket on. I assume toyota just thought the dealer or buyer would just bolt it up somewhere on the body. I wonder of the toyota harritage museum would know or I could find photos there. Here is the link to the New old stock one that city racer has. Happy Birthday🎂
Wives that put up with and support our obsessions are awesome, a definite keeper.
Looking forward to your soft top install. I'm in the process of test fitting my , really old been stored in the garage for way to long, Pakistani soft top that I got in a group buy years ago. Like with the Troa top there is some metal massaging and trimming needed.

I am not happy with the front windshield channel that came with it and would appreciate some detailed pictures of the channel to see if its worth trying to get channel from Troa.
