This works really good for the passenger side hinge bolts behind the glove box. Also, remove the kickout vent, there’s some better access through that opening.
Promptly purchased a 12/14 one haha.

So this soft top is proving to be an emotional rollercoaster.. Its fighting me every step of the way. Currently being held up in customs in miami for "Description provided is insufficient to classify commodity." I have already emailed Troa. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I ordered some parts from Japan for my 80 series and had them shipped through FedEx and they got held up by Customs too. TROA might be able to clear it up on their end, but in my case, I had to email an HS-7 form to FedEx to get my packages cleared. It was pretty easy though, and after I emailed the forms, everything made it through. Not sure if you'll have to go the HS-7 route, maybe see what TROA says. You might get an email from FedEx asking for that form anyway.

Yeah I am going to wait to see what TROA says. I am hoping they can clear it up. But they always take a day to respond. If I get an email from fedex that would be great as for the life of me I could not find a customer service way to inquire about the issue. I think somthing like this happend when I bought snorkel parts from partsouq. Got held up for a week then just shipped.

@Roastchestnuts I’ve got a quick question…or maybe not quick. Anyone else feel free to chime in.

My friend is wanting a softtop for his 1980 fj40. Is Troa the only game left for an OEM style? I know you are on the waiting game, which he doesn’t care about the wait if it’s decent. Any other options?

Real steel bows - can’t find if they even exist
SOR only seems to do the fabric part
Julie/dirt road is only fabric and sounds like she’s not been great at responding

Relikgarage is just Troa correct?

He doesn’t want a besttop or non oem top.

On the bows. I've found there are a bunch of original bows out there folks are just holding onto.

Right after I received my Real Steel bows, I ran into a bunch of folks who said they had a set and would've sold them to me if I'd just asked.

I even found a set in my own town.

But isn't that they way things work....

Did alot this memorial day weekend. I had some nice beach days with the fj40. Finally did a proper lean drop on the carb. Runs great now. Actually was surprised by how good the vacuum was. Sat right at 20. I also did a valve adjustment again. a few valves were too tight so I am glad I did it. I also Finally got the door hinges on. I am stoked I went with them. its soo easy to pull the doors off now. I saw a really cool south american fj43. I cant for the life of me remember the guys name on Mud but it was really cool. Has the top I am waiting on. speaking of the top. Fedex contacted me to clear it in customs and Troa said they talked to Fedex. I have the customs agensts number I am going to call today and figure out whats up. If it clears customs it will be here in just a couple of days.

In addition to the fj43 I saw, I saw a few other really cool 4x4s. Sombody had a military humvee, I saw a Pinzgauer, Saw a 2 door gwagon, a series II land rover, 2 willys cj2s and a really nice m38a2. I should have gotten some photos. it was almost like a car show.

Great going on getting the carb tuned! Where did you plug into for your vacuum reading?
Don't mean to hijack: Here is one way to easily take periodic vacuum readings. The fitting screws directly into the intake manifold. A rubber vacuum cap goes over the small end and the large end feeds the 4WD actuator. It provides a very easy and convenient way of quickly hooking up a vacuum gauge.

I have two ports on the carb insulator spacer. I have the vacuum advance attached to one and the other one is usually capped off. I just uncapped it and put the vacuums gage to that.

Joao is a very common Portuguese name, more likely he's from Brazil originally, but yeah, cool name. PM coming tomorrow.

No soft top as of yet unfortunately still stuck in Miami. I have been in contact with Fedex at least. They keep telling us it will be moving out of customs in due time and they are backed up. sounds like BS to me but Idk Cladia Chapman from Troa has been adamant about getting it moving has been calling fed ex just as much as me. she is super nice and her help has been super nice. Honestly this is classic fedex. I have never had good experiences with fedex.

some other news: a guy came up to me last week at the local gas station when I was filling up and said I have some turn signal lenses for one of these. he said he had a few land cruisers in the mid 2000s. wierdly he was a retired teacher too. He said he would send them my way. I was thinking they would be the wrong year or somthing from a jeep but sure enough they showed up yesterday and they were new old stock early land cruiser turn signal lenses. pretty cool!

I also replaced the pcv valve yesterday with a oem toyota one from Cruiser teq. figured it was a good idea since the old one had been there for some time.
