your milage may vary - I didn't have good luck with those wires in his kit - I loved the bracket and coil since I didn't have them either (HEI dizzy from PO) -

I ended up getting other plug wires - cuz I would get a visible arc between #6 wire and the vacuum advance hose - they were about 15 mm apart and could see it arc. I have a vid, -

Be careful removing the freeze plugs - especially around the cam. You can nick the cam and cause a burr. Don't ask how I know.

bearing cap specs I think you are asking for....

Thanks for the heads up on the freeze plugs. I would have damaged the cam for sure with my luck. What would you recommend for plug wires. I ended up buying the denso plugs everyone ends up using. I think I am going to go petronix. Its not too bad price wise. and go for the city racer dizzy. Its the best price hands down. Even my secret go to for oem parts: https://partsouq.com/en/search/all?q=19100-61180 was about the same price with shipping. I used this site alot when I had my kzj78. Some times parts would ship from the middle east and end up here quicker than parts shipping from places here in the US!

Thanks for this! I am going to hopfully torq them down this afternoon when I get done with work.
@Roastchestnuts

Here is my post with respect to modifying the dizzy (Matts or Racer) with the pentronix - basically - double checking the swap and the vacuum advance didn't work - turns out a screw was too long & in the way. May save you a headache.

My first '40 and the venture - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/my-first-40-and-the-venture.1307023/post-15113086
yeah again this is some wackyness that would happen to me so thanks for the heads up. Love all you documented on your build. I spent most of this morning reading it.

Some updates: I ended up getting another oil pan gasket because Mine was garbage and was a two piece gasket. I bought a oem one from cruiserteq. additionally I need to find plug wires. does anyone have any recommendation for plug wires?

My next big purchase is going to be the Dizzy, Clutch Kit, thermostat housing kit and starter. (might as well replace starter while engine is out)

I also got some really interesting fog photographs this morning. foggy out there!

I got OEM wire set - 90919-21148 for $59 from Lewis Toyota in KS - if Order $75 or more = free shipping - I compare prices and go there when it makes sense. And my friend in KC whom is the head mechanic for Toyota KC region (he and his team fix what dealers can't)- said get a set bosch plug wires from O'Reily. I'm a horrible listener. I get into OEM snobbery sometimes to the detriment of my wallet.

The ones with Matt's kit just were not right - nothing against Matt - stuff just happens like parts failure.

my condolences.

There are posts about what starter - GR or back to original. I put on GR when my original failed. It starts easier - but I don't like the sound of it.

I did get my original overhauled at a local shop in lincoln - and it is one the shelf waiting for the day to get back into action.

I got an RMAN from the Toyota place I use. - 160 + core and free shipping.

some fun parts came from city racer in the mail today. excited to get these installed. fuel pump and water pump. I wish it was easier to find a non fan clutch non oil cooler water pump. Whenever city racer opens back up I will be ordering a dizzy, coil and a thermostat housing kit. I am going to get the non oil cooler housing as I got the non oil cooler water pump. some things on the way already - plug wires, oil filter, oil pan gasket, and a 2f blue sticker from @Cruiser Corps to stick on the side of f155 valve cover whenever I get it.

I think I might go for an original one instead of a gear reduction one. I have seen them for better prices anyway. But still unsure.

I hear ya - I do love the sound of the original. I was just showing the price at Toyota for a Toyota RMAN if you wanted to save a few bucks on a GR vs new.

I may revert back - just for the sound.

Cheers

I might be in Colorado for a wedding in April! Ill let you know the details when I find out more.

There are a bunch of us in Colorado, would be cool to grab a 🍺 not much surf this time of …well ever, but we do have world famous oysters here…just a different species

I would love to meet up. My brother lives in Denver so eventually I will need to visit!

So random fj80 photo. I was looking through some of my photos from about 4 years ago now and came across a photo of my fj80. I would have never sold this one. it was a early 1991 Non sunroof or third row fj80 with no overdrive. (was not fun on the highway) on the way back from the mountains my wife took a turn driving and another vehicle pushed us off the road and she overcorrected and we rolled it many many times. From the slow side all the way to the fast lane on the other side of the highway. through the median and trees too actually. I look back on it and really believe that if we were in a different 4x4 vehicle we would be dead. of course the fj80 was totaled. better it than us. But I I do really miss that vehicle. one day I want to get another. I still have the front grill. when we were at the junk yard to grab all the things out of it I took the front grill. It is hanging above our back door in our house.

This all said the fj40 gets better MPG hahaha

This one hit home for me, except it was my FJ55. Not quite as violent as yours, but same end result. I too kept my grill, hanging in my shop.

Absolutely, only about an hour from denver and @theglobb can confirm I’m fairly normal.

Quite a few others in this area, and of course some epic off-roading.
Most of the Mud Landcruiser guys I have met through here have been the nicest people. It must be somthing about people who like land cruisers = cool people. Strange sometimes but we all are a little weird.

Yeah that breaks my heart to see an upside down fj55. The 55 is my favorite land cruiser I think. I would not get rid of the salt wagon but I would be tempted by an fj55. What ended up happining to that 55? That looks very much like the end result of our wreck. more stuff everywhere in ours as we were coming back from the mountains from a week long trip and all of our crap went everywhere. I actually lost my shoes that were on my feet. Found a few photos from it.

I should say to everyone looking at this post I am not dwelling on the past nor do I like showing these pictures but I think Its important remember things like this happen and it could all be over as quick as a blink of an eye. This accident changed me. forced me to really think about my priorities in life for sure. anyways not to get too heavy. everyone involved in the accident is alive to tell the tale.

just a dent It will buff out... I remember the keys would not come out because the dash and inner supports had moved about 5 inches to the left. still wish I had kept those tires. they were about 2 months old...

Glad everyone was safe and injuries weren’t worse. I escaped with zero injuries but pride and it sent me on quite the cruiser journey after it. I was EXTREMELY lucky.
It was at the sand dunes around Walden CO at the photo shoot for the new FJ Cruiser. -20F. Just had taken my seatbelt off a few minutes before to check on other cruisers, @treerootCO and @PabloCruise as clutch’s were freezing. Hopped back in, was looking at my rear view and caught a small drive on the front which pulled the rear end around. Went into the deeper snow then over she went and stuck hard on the side caving in the roof.
Luckily without my seatbelt I ended up in floorboards squeezed by the roof. Had I had my seatbelt on I probably wouldn’t be here.

Good news, we rolled it over, started it, pushed the roof up and drove it the rest of the day. Even made the FJcruiser brochure somewhere I have it. Sadly parted out on here so lots of people got parts from it.

Terrible quality pic, but I miss that Pig.

Some good ‘ol Rocky Mountain Oysters. I live fairly close to Bruce’s but I've never been there. If there’s a Colorado Mud meetup, count me in!
