What a great run! We had a fantastic time on the trail.

Thanks to Andy, Tom, Eric, Don, Sam, KC and everyone on the wagon run for all the spotting and help along the way.

BIG thank you  to Tony and all the Rubithon committee for hosting an amazing event.

KC took over 1500 photos and we'll be posting up links here

Just got back after an exit out Cadillac this am. It took 4 hours to get from the springs to the Staging area. I had to winch myself twice,

4 hours was a good time. How did the IFS 4Runner do?

It took us over 5 hours with a small group. At least an hour was waiting for the group 2 a head of us. We had some strapping due to broken front arb in the mini long bed in our group (didn't help that we also over loaded the bed of his truck and his front end was a little light). We had to winch and strap a couple of times through the snow at the top.

I don't know. Our group was one 60, two 40s, and two 80s. I felt very fortunate. One of the times I winched, it was on purpose-I went into a tree well to avoid slipping into the tree well, then winched out. It only took a minute or two to rig up and took way less time then a real recovery.

BTW-If anyone found a tree strap attached to a shackle in the snow on the right side of the trail-I'd like it back. My son and I miscommunicated about that and I stupidly thought it was back in the truck!

Took us 7 hours running backwards to loon. Can't remember when I've had such a challenging time on the con. Trail was was rough this year. After the ugliest possible performance in big sliuce coming out I don't think I have a straight pannel left on the runner. Boy was that fun! Really. For all of those who stayed home whith doubts of a vehicle that wasn't set up enough you made the right choice. Thanks. Great small event. Thanks to everybodys hard work to pull this thing off this year. Btw - Woody not only broke the rear 3rd member he had a total of I believe 7 total broken issues, deserving recipient of the Hard luck award. Looking forward to seeing peoples pictures they are willing to upload or link.

While I want to caution how we exclaim how fun Rubithon was, I think we should recount the event from the How Lucky We Were aspect.

The Friday before Rubithon, I seriously doubted our ability to pull this event off. Thanks to my excellent trail committee and the experience they bring to the event, along with a fast melt these last few days, we were able to safely enter Rubicon Springs.

As James notes, the trail was as tough as its ever been and claimed 3 third members, one solid flop (to just mention a few), and I joked it was the largest Double Locker Run ever had at 74 trucks (74 registered trucks made it in)!!

Fortunately no one was hurt in all the wheeling TLCA members did this year at Rubithon, and despite the limited event activities due to the snow conditions, everyone seemed to have a good time meeting and socializing in the Springs.

I want to thank everyone who attended or helped or worked or offered parts or offered a strap or offered a spot or got their gloves dirty tossing a rock or bought a raffle ticket or cooked me a meal or bought a T-shirt or ran for parts or got a ticket or ran back for camping gear or lead a run or pulled some cable or tossed a bottle of water or tossed a log on the fire or tossed a shrimp on the barbie or pitched a tent or .... said hello, smiled and waved.

Thank you Dave Thomas! We all owe you the most heart felt thanks for the time and effort you personally put into making this years Rubithon a success. While I held the microphone, it was you who did the work.

Thanks everyone for making what seemed to be a losing situation into a most excellent time spent with friends on one of the most wonderful trails the Sierra Nevada has to offer.

While I have some near term plans afoot for Aug 19 - 22nd (keep that weekend free), I can say I look forward to applying some Lessons Learned from this years Rubithon towards next year.

I want to post this link to the PMC forum and of Dion's truck... (#154 on page 8)

The IFS 4runner from Texas joined the Medic crew out over Cadillac.
A little bit of winching on Cadillac mixed with a lot of spotting and they did quite well. We got to staging in a little under 5 hours. The snow and water made the exit much less boring than previous years.

Thanks everyone for not using the services of the Medic crew this year..

Pighead just now got home. Left the Springs tenish this morning with BK, Wooody, Pismo Jim & Craig (in the blue 80). Aaron tagged along in a Toy truck and Kevin in a POS jeep tried to keep up. Wooooody broke 4 or 5 wheel studs, then we figured out he was missing a C-clip or two in his new rear third...Woody made it to staging, even out to the pavement, before the nice AAA man decided to give him and his rig a ride home.
Pighead and Pismo Jim took our out-of-town guests to the Rubicon brew pub in Sac for a quick meal before dropping them off at the airport with an hour or two to spare.
Pighead gives this Rubithon 2 big thumbs up.

Home in Hot Humid Atlanta. I'm going to bed! Heres just a sample of the Ross Woody ,PMC ,Rubicon Shop Class Auto Mechanics Tour 2010.:steer:

What happened in that last picture? I was not aware that Ross broke his front end as well and would appreciate knowing the details-it looks like he is running 1 ton ends. Did one of those break?.

What a string of luck, it reminds me of a country song......

O.K. Just one more...Here's the PMC , Advanced Snow Survival 101 Class Tour. More to come soon.

All,

If you have pictures that you would like to be considered for Toyota Trails please do not post them on the internet. Please send them to Todd in their original format (not reduced).

If you have pictures of Mudrak in Little Sluice post them up.

Yes, It was some trip! This is my story...

I had no issues until we started to head back to Buck. I ended up breaking my rear pinion as a couple of others did. It took lus a while to figure out that it was the pinion since when we took it out it didn't appear broke. We had to put it back in and actually try to turn the darn thing and yes it was busted. Probably as Glen said at the bearing.
Glen's son Cliff went down to see what kind of options there were around and brought upa 4.11 3rd. That only got me back to the springs...I have 5.29's.
The plan at that time was to plug the diff with the 4.11 and get back to the springs in front wheel drive. Unfortunatelly again, all our camping gear was at Buck! SO, glen and my co pilot and Rick went back up to Buck to break our camp and Glen, Mike, Manny and Cliff helped me get back to the springs in front wheel drive.
Then Glen had to come back to the springs with our gear and THEN back to Buck!
After stashing my 40 behind the caretakers cabin we needed a ride out and then to my tow rig In Shingle Springs.
Tony, Ben, Dave and Jeeper Ron thanks for the ride up Cadillac toten our gear and 3rd member. Tony, bless his heart, offered a ride to my tow rig via Auburn.
I want to give an incredible thanks to all who have helped me and my co pilot Rick. Withought their help we would still be walking out with my 3rd member...lol

Now i need to make repair on my 3rd and find some volunteers to meet me at the staging area some time in the next few weeks with a ride to the Springs and hang while I slap it all back together and follow me back out. My adventure is not over.

Any volunteers? I am completely at your schedule.
You can call me or pm me. Suggestions are very welcome too...

K2KK... glad you made it home!

For those who may not be aware, Keith lives in Fortuna! So not only does he have to come back for his truck, he had quite the journey too! Keep us posted on your plans Keith.

PKP80... Thanks for sharing, looks like you always have a great time at Rubithon!

Thanks Tony I will, and as suggested by Dave T i am waiting a return call from Jim at Inchworm regarding gears and a possible rescue mission.
I have a retired mechanic friend in town that we will break down my 3rd just to verify the pinion is broken, and whatever else may be needed.
The adventure continues...

Wow, what an adventure, my first trip on the Rubicon! It was everything I've heard about and more!

I'll never be able to repay Pasquale for that great opportunity, to tag along and meet so many fun folks and to see so many amazing Cruisers. Thanks to everyone on the Wagon run for making me feel so welcome and letting me & my camera constantly get in the way. Andrew led a great run, Tom & Eric were tremendous spotters, Greg, Eli, Eric, Sam, Fred & Jeff made the whole week fun and Don made it look so easy...

I'll post a few pics to start and here's a link to a SmugMug album that I've started and I'll be adding to today & tomorrow. With over 1200+ pics, it's going to take awhile... But here is what I saw and how I saw it, on my first Rubicon trip and my first TLCA event. I was blown away.

And one quick question now that I'm home... Why does my 60 on 33's all of the sudden look so small?
