Piss poor maintenance by the POS Owner? ;)

I just need to pony up for a good skid fab job.

LOL.

The reason I ask, is because I had 3 of 4 tranny to bellhousing bolts loose by 1/2 turn or so after Rubithon. Maybe it's the nature of it.

Micheal Dremmon made a skid for my 40 years ago, that was a really nice piece.

Lots of snow still on million dollar hill.

wow, what a trip woody. i feel for ya. here's a pic of my "new" rig on it's maiden voyage. million dollar hill on saturday noonish.

ps: does an 85 4runner qualify as a wagon?! that would mean i'll be asking myself to get out of my way.

Ross-Thanks for the detailed post. Awesome carnage that just kept coming! Any idea what caused all the loose bolts underneath?

Just shows what happens when Ross is running without the good karma of cooking dinner for everyone. Plus, he made a point about packing light so maybe unweighting the rig unstressed the connections causing them to loosen up.

Then again, could have been piss poor maintenance. :flipoff2:

As for myself, it may have been the best Rubithon ever. Didn't have time to prep my own rig, just threw on some zombie stickers and caribou antlers. The zombie stickers kept the gremlins away, I had zero problems. The caribou antlers really helped the snow wheeling on Monday with the rig floating over the deep drifts, confidently swimming water holes up to its neck and climbing the steep exits with sure footed ease.

The highlight of the week was watching Mudrak spank the Box! Very nice piece of driving and commitment to get the iconic FJ45 with roof top tent and solar panels through the boulders of Little Sluice. Gary's cheeks had to be sore from all the grinning.

It was great to see everyone in such relaxed atmosphere, everyone was chill. A real tribute to the TLCA! Awesome event Tony, great raffle Dave and just think...... if Ross would have cooked dinner he might not have had all that carnage!

Nice videos Manny......I will make it up soup bowl this year.....:D

Well, I was finally able to dissasemble my 3rd and the problem is the spline on the pinion and the yoke stripped out. that's why it was so difficult to figure out on the trail.
Now it's just new parts and form some sort of rescue down from Cadillac to the Springs.
Any interested parties please send me a pm or call 707-496-9494. We can work out any details or concerns.

Thanks
Keith

sorry for the clarity on the pics...

Hey Mike, Your help was awesome and I won't forget.

Apparently, there was a little side movement in the pinion and all the wriggling around weakened the assembly. Just before dissambly my buddy was moving it around and noticed that. And that is probably why we didn't see the failure immediatly on the trail when we took the darn thing out and had to reinstall it to confirm. Sorry the pictures suck but it is obvious now. I was even sceptable on the breakage, but being a 1  :wrench: I concede to the pros being you, Glen, Clif and Dale.
They are 5.29's that is certain. i replaced them a few years ago due to a faulty crush sleeve. It is now a solid sleeve so that is not the issue.

Not sure how long Mark will be patient with my rig down there. It is out of the way and all, just saying. I did say that it might be 3 weeks or so and he was cool with that.

My best scenario is to meet some guys on top, load up, reinstall the 3rd, axles, drive line and drive flanges and have them follow me out. The new gears and all might pose other problems on the way out. If we have to stay a night I have gear for two and food for many. Sorry Glen the twizzlers are toast...lol All perishables went out with the Mog crew.
The bolts on the drive flanges should be fine I am assuming. I will have to get some of the gorilla tape...ha

Anyone up for a quickie...in and out...lol

i'm up for a little rescue mission and i'm sure the fox is as well. but i won't be able to do it until the third weekend in july.

George that is great! Quite frankly I am at the mercy of(timing wise) the guys going down. The way I am thinking we can meet in the morning at the staging area...Tahoe side and head down. I will end up camping the night before due to the drive from the coast. So anytime in the morning is cool. All we have to do, as I wrote before is slap everything together and roll.
Give me a call and we can go over some of the logistics of it all.

let me see if we can get a crew of 3-4 rigs together and we'll go from there. should'nt be a problem though. we'll spend the night at the springs with you and escort you out.

That's perfect...thanks
I'll keep in touch.
And do call if you want.

On a side note..those shackles I got from you are awesome...

This was a special Rubithon for me. Not only were the conditions ideal, but this was the first time I brought my 5 year old son Jack. It was also the second run through the 'con with the FZJ80. It definitely was a little different squeezing that big wagon through the lines I was used to taking with my '40. I'm still impressed with how well it handles the off-camber stuff.

Hangin' out at little sluice with the all the bozos from the double-locker run...

And a video of his run:

My son Jack had a great time with Eric's son Gabe catching crawdad's in the creek. It was definitely his favorite part of the trip followed closely by snow wheeling and finding the rattlesnake coiled around his toy truck!

Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning were really quiet after everyone bailed early:

Bring on the snow next year! It sure made the exit to Tahoe a lot more fun than usual. Nice wheelin with everyone again!
