I'll be too buisy working the trail for the next 4 weeks to help you guy's out, whoever goes, could someone haul out the 3rd member I loaned? I guess a simple trail fix for this problem whould have been to weld the pinion to the yoke flange. Thank's, John Pardi

That would be great if you could make it. Looks like the Jamboree is July 22 - 25 for their 4 day and another on July 30 - August 1 for a 3 day run.
They will be going in loon or most will be. If we go down on the 3rd weekend we will misss them. The 3rd weekend is sat the 17th.
Heck tony, they get 3 squares every day and an air station at the top of caddy...sheesh...jeepers

And a video of his run: Check out the front tire at min 4:34. Nice work Gary. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjHKk8ddbJk said:

Gary Great job. I can't believe you did not smash your doors in. I love the voices yelling for you to give some gas.

Just to keep everyone updated who's interested. Inchworm is sending out gears and a new yoke for me and my 3rd should be together by this weekend. So with fingers crossed I will be ready to go then. Not a great weekend being the 4th and all.
I can get over to the upper staging area on anyones schedule. A few have showed interest in my cruisers rescue and I will post more updates as my repair progresses.
My rubithon is not over yet.......

Snap ring is on order Mike. That was a pita to get them out. I originally borrowed one from our local maching shop for the original install never thinking I would need it for a trail repair. The cap bolts were difficult too but i can get them in. It's a touchy feely thing. You have to turn ccw to find the thread and then they go in well. I will call around to russle up some extra diff nuts/bolts. They are all together in the cruiser at present. I will also call Marks wife and let her know we are tentatively heading down then. She will not be availabe 'till after the 2nd.

It's a date Mike...ha Georg might be in on it too...fingers crossed

well if the Knorr Bros are going... then I think I can make myself available too on that Saturday.

Thanks Tony. Your help has already been pivitol in getting me and my co pilot to Shingle Springs. And now a return too. That's awesome! I look forward to it.

My plan is to get to the staging area on the evening of the 16th and camp on my empty:confused: trailer and wait for all in the morning for the trip down.

???

Just a heads up , I"m OK with just a Saturday recovery ? Get down & out ? camping at springs Sat .night is ok also !

Mike, that seems to be the plan unfolding. Just a get in and get out. Once we get there it won't take long to put her back together. Mark did want us to take it to the mechanics slab for the repair/assembly. So far it looks llike it will be you, Tony possibly and Georg mentioned he might be in too.
So Saturday in and Sunday out.

Just an update........

OK guys... So the ring gear, pinion, yoke and rebuild kit are in and all verified with my awesome mechanic. He's gonna put it all together tomorrow. he also mentiond that there was abnormal wear on the old pinion. Glad it's all slowly coming together. It's a strange feeling knowing your rig is down and out and miles away in a campground.......

At least it would be too much trouble to steal, and it sounds like a fun time on the rescue mission.

Glad it's looking up.

Actually it is pretty safe down there. It's nestled/covered right below the caretakers cabin. So i am pretty comfortable with that part. Can't imagine if a rig was left on the trail...any trail for that matter.

Yeah!!!

So my 3rd is all put back together and I am ready for the 17th. As I said before there was just a little bit of play with the pinion and the yoke. I put the old flange and the old pinion back together and yes I could turn it a bit. It would catch on some of the splines and that is why we didn't see that immediatley. There was also lots of wear on the pinion gear itself. So with the small amount of play and the stresses it goes through it just let loose.

Update: please leave that 3-rd member in the springs, I'll pick it up on one of the Jamborees. Plan on some delay's this weekend from the tahoe side and the loon side. Friends of the Rubicon will be doing trail work at the turn on Cadillac Hill, the springs, the Sawtooth on the big sluice. Approx 50 people. Also a work party in Rubicon Springs for setting up the Jamboree. Approx 50 people. If you have spare time, please volunteer to help. Thank's, John Pardi

Will do John. We are heading down on Saturday with 55guy, Orangefj40 and some other of George's buddies I am assuming. Your 3rd is at the caretakers cabin and Mark knows that it is yours. I spoke with Mark just the other day to confirm our arrival there. Not sure just how much time we will have but if we can we will help as well.
Thanks for the update on the work party's

Keith
