I was trying to tighten my belts and the alt. tensioning bolt snapped in half! I tightened the top alt. bolt tight but is it safe to drive it like this or will the alt. loosen up quickly? I need to go buy another bolt (if I can find one).

Also, why would I have a water like substance in the little crevasse, or dimple, where the screw driver is pointing???

You should be fine for awhile without the tensioning bolt. Many vehicles do not have them at all.

Hard to tell about the moisture. It may be coming from that o-ring and the rest of it dried up?

My truck is currently operating (for 40K+ miles) WITHOUT the alternator belt tensioner at all, not even the bracket that was used. (PO removed it for some reason, along with the idler pulley) I discovered it was missing after the radiator exploded and I got it all back together and was looking how to adjust it.

I ended up using a pry bar behind the alternator to pry it out for belt tension, then tightening all of the pivot bolts and the one through where the bracket is supposed to be, and it is holding fine. I have since purchased all the parts, I just have not had the time to get them installed.

How many bolts does the alt. bracket actually pivot on?

See attached pic.

I bought all the parts and bolts to create the drive belt adjusting bar for about $18 from CDan.

So 2 bolts hold the alt. bracket to the motor, 1 bolt holds the alt. to the bracket & 1 bolt holds the alt. to the motor (& this is the only bolt that really pivots the alt.)? Thanks!

Btw, I'd only gotten to 45lbs. of belt tension, according to my Gates gauge, when the adj. bolt snapped!

That got me to thinking about it, so I went out and took a picture of how mine is set up right now.

You remove the broken bolt.
You remove the Block adjuster/slider
You install the bolt that WAS through the middle of the block and slide it through the slotted part of the bracket and tighten it to the alternator. You MAY have to find a nut to put on it from the back side. to hold it or lock it.
The upper long bolt is the main pivot and you tighten it when done. (Slightly loose to adjust the belt, then tighten the one in the slot, then tighten the pivot bolt.)

Sorry. Employer shut down access to 'Mud...... Yes I believe the P/N is 90119-08493 ($1.68). If not that it is one of the following:
91511-C0835 ($0.79)
90080-10200 ($1.23)
All from cdan

After fitting the 150 amp alternator I could not use the adjuster bolt/bracket, did exactly this a couple of years ago and it has been fine, one day I will get around to making something up....................one day :meh:

regards

Dave

does anyone else have the part numbers for the remaining portions of the tensioner? the other bolt and the block the long tensioner bolt slides through?

Try this:

16381-66030
All the other parts are shown there as well.
Find the P/N using Partsouq, then order from McGeorge or local dealer.

I may have that part/parts I'll look tomorrow

Anyone have this bolt part #??

This has a long unthreaded portion on the end. It's a pin that connects the alt to the adjuster.

Ooops...wrong spot. Ty

Does anybody know the part # for a 3FE alternator adjusting bolt? I’ve ordered the FZJ twice over and have been trying to find one long enough at a hardware store
