Thanks! I really appreciate it. This alternator upgrade is proving to be a bit of a nail-biter and I want to get at least the Toyota suggested approach to the mechanic. I just got the new one today, btw.
Is altenator remanufactured or Japanese made?

MANY thanks! I would have guessed 34 for the bolts LOL!
Alternator is scheduled for delivery today.
I have the belts.
Installation is scheduled for 12/26. 😱

Is there by any chance a FSM set of instructions for alternator removal?

Site is baaack.

This thing looks tasty! Tell us more once you get it in.
I plan to post in the Trailer Power thread. It's been an adventure finding the alternator vendor and an installer I trust to install it.
BTW, I was trying to be careful not to hijack your thread and asked questions that I thought were relevant to an alternator change out and would add to it, such as what the torques were etc...

This thread has been a huge help to me. I studied your pictures with a magnifying glass to make sure I knew some of the pitfalls around the alternator change out. MANY MANY thanks for this and for your other posts.

Bumping this thread, i'm doing this job for a buddy tomorrow so using your method as a reference. It's been awhile so i need a refresher. I remember when i did it the last time i had to pull it from the top, after removing the fan shroud and fan. You were able to pull it out from the bottom by disconnecting the sway bar brackets? Not the links itself right, i hate removing those, hard to get them back in. From the pics looks like you just removed the bracket and let it swing down and pull the alt through.

Yup. Just the brackets that hold the sway onto the frame. Was able to push everything over enough to squeeze the alternator through.

Nice, looks like you didn't even drain the coolant or removed the lower rad hose. If you were to do this job again with all your tools, how long do you think it'll take you?

I think I could knock this out in 3-4 hrs. I spent so much time fighting for angles and leverage with the limited set of tools. With a proper compliment of tools and impact driver, I could see this taking less than half the time I spent.

Note pulling it out through the bottom, there's a bunch of brackets on the power steering lines. I loosened or took them out to be able to push them out of the way.

About to do this job. Voltage randomly surges to 17V. Burned my headlights out.

If I can get it out through the bottom just loosening the sway bar, oil cooler lines, and power steering lines, that sounds much better than removing the fan, shroud, radiator, hoses, etc.

I too should've changed it when I installed the new radiator, wp, thermostat, pulleys, fan bracket, etc...
