I am debating on wether or not to buy a Yakima Skybox 21 or just get a BajaRack, Gamavitti or a Pioneer Platform like you see in the link.
https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/578415-rhino-rack-platform-3.html

Originally, I was going to just get the Skybox because I can just throw it on the wife's Suburban for when we go on vacations. Storage can be an issue when we have the jogging stroller and pack & play. If we didn't have those two things, then it would be a different story.
Anyway, I am kind of liking the idea of being able to have an awning when needed and it would come in handy at tailgates too. They can hold a lot of cargo but weather could be an issue. I do not plan on getting a RTT, so I don't want to build around that. My only concern with the Rhino is it's completely flat. i would prefer some kind of side rail for better latching points. That is where the Baja looks to come in play.
this is my everyday truck and on occasion the truck may see a parking garage but I almost always try to find a parking place in a lot or on the street. the quieter the better and, of course, MPG consideration is a plus.
So, what are your thoughts?

I'd get Shane's $270 mounts, the Thule load bar adapters $?, Thule load bar awning brackets for $60 and then whatever skybox you want. Or skip the thule bars all together and get his M-Load bars if they'll work with the box you want.

Plus, since it's all modular, It's be super easy to take it off between tailgates and vacations.

I have Yakima bars now.

The only problem with getting Shane's mounts is that the length between them is fixed and it may or may not coincide with the mounting of the box you want to use

I vote rhino platform..... I've used mine to transport doors, vinyl fence, plywood, camping gear, etc... the rack has five c-channel load bars that you can hook a rachet strap to, you can also use eye bolts in the slats or if you want sides they make removeable ones... I think its currently the best rack you can buy....

If you wheel a lot with the sky-box attached it will likely develop cracks on the bottom near the attachment feet. I've seen it several times. I've used mine on a couple of wheeling trips with no issues but it does move around a lot off road.

X2. After my inital install problems and the poor instructions for the USA market i completly agree. The rack is bomber. Stout, Good Looks, Very versatile.

Can yall provide a link?

A couple of years ago we were looking for a car topper for heading up to Lake Tahoe for our annual Christmas trip.
I did a lot of shopping around and comparision between what was out there and wound up purchasing one from Sears. It was one of their own brands and was less than $200 clams! Very large, large enough to put my daughters snowboard in and several rolling duffel bags boots etc.
It also just bolted onto my factory cross bars on my LC. Just had to adjust the spacing of the bars to the topper, bolt it down and done!

Note: not long enough for skis, or at least mine.

AO rack wins hands down for weight capacity IMO

Another excellent option that I almost went with. Also the new Eezi-Awn.......

and the BajaRack, Gamavitti etc etc. All are great, just depends on what you want it to do and what you are willing to spend.

FWIW, I can not detect any appreciable wind noise from the Rhino, I've heard the same about others too.

Have you noticed much wind noise, drag and MPG loss with the awning and rack?

No, no and no. Nothing I do seems to affect my MPG. I've been consistently in the 10-12 range.
