whose running a roof rack on their 80 series? I would like to add one to the hulk (94 land cruiser. My 4 year old names it) I am going on a long off road trip the end of August and would like to add a roof rack for extra space for gear and supplies.

What kind of roof rack did you install?

How has it held up?

Has it got in the way at all?

One day will make a full metal roof rack, but for now I just use a couple yakima bars and skybox. I just keep light stuff up there, tents, pillows, tarps, etc. You can find Thule and Yakima parts for cheap on CL.

I don't think I would be putting anything heavy on the roof either. It would be promise my used for the same thing your putting on your roof. Are you covering it with anything or putting everything in something waterproof? I'd hate to put pillows and other items on top and then it starts raining. [emoji18]

Yakima skybox case. I use it year round. Never had everything get wet up there.

It provides quite a bit of extra room for stuff that just takes up space in the cab.

Very cool. That would be perfect.

Did you paint your truck?
Yes. Sprayed with Raptor liner.

Sidenote, when i do build a full rack I will be sure I can still use the skybox. I had a open rack on there before, but got annoying covering and securing everything everytime.

It looks like it came out really good. I am going to be taking my fender flares off soon plus the body could use some sort of paint job. I don't think I want to lay several thousand dollars for a paint job when it will more than likely get scratched on the trails.

Are you able to touch scratches up with raptor liner?

Yes, shop gave me a quart of touch-up. It's pretty bullet proof.

You had it done at a shop?
Long story but yes. I don't even know what it cost. Was a gift from my boss who shares office space with a truck fab company. They spray all there bumpers and trucks with it.

Anyway far as the rack you can see a full one with mounts are somewhat spendy. The whole Yakima setup does add up, but I have less than $400 into it.

That was nice of him. I will have to look into the raptor liner more but that maybe something I'll do myself as long as I can do it in my garage and it doesn't make a huge mess. I painted a car before and it made a huge mess.

I will have to look into Yakima setups too. I really like the look of roof racks but a Yakima setup maybe the way to go for long trips and not having to worry about items getting wet and ruined.

Since the rack/box is on it guess it can go here. They called it "desert tan", but honestly was a mix they had. The fab shop owner has a toy mini truck done in the same color. Rather than having them mix some custom color I opted to just have it done with what they already had mixed. I can see if I can get the details and PM you. I meant for the hood to be darker and less reflective. There is sheen to this coating and that backfired a little. I will redo one day, but not looking forward to removing raptor. NOTHING sticks to it.
