There are various types of insulation: vibration, thermal, sound. All can be found in thin sizes. I’m just not sure if any are needed or work well with our tops or the headliners that we glue on.I need to repair my roof - I plan to insulate it some how.
Same for me. Heat is the only issue in this vehicle.Noise in a FJ-40, say it ain't so. Yea I'm more interested in keeping heat out in the summer. I have a large back heater and can/have drive around at 30 MPH in -30 weather wearing shorts and a tee shirt with the windows down. Kick and cowl vents closed. I'm guessing some sort of glue in closed cell foam.
I used an indoor/outdoor carpet from Lowe's for my headliner. Dampens noise, insulates and in my opinion looks better than the white one.

Links to what you used? Trying to decide which route to go.When I got tired of re-gluing the factory headliner back up numerous times, I tore it out and replaced it with marine (boat) carpet. Helps a little with sound and maybe heat, but not a lot. Mine is not a resto.

Haha, no links either. A $20 carpet and 4 tubes of liquid nail from Lowes is what I bought. Use your old headliner as a template to cut it into the right shape. Leave it outside for a couple days until the adhesive cures, it really stinks at first but it will never sag if you apply it correctly.Links to what you used? Trying to decide which route to go.
Does anyone add insulation between the headliner and roof? I’ve done this in other vehicles with metal roofs and it makes a big difference, but haven’t tried it with a fiberglass roof. I’m adding a new headliner soon.
Did you use the CC headliner?I sprayed Lizard Skin, then Kilmat, and finally the headliner, and I am very happy with the results. It’s been 6 months since I did the work in a very hot and humid climate, and it has been holding up with no issues.
