trully that sucks but on the better side the roof rack and the boat saved alot of body damage.

When you get the chance post some pics of the damage. It doesn't look too bad in the pictures. Best thing is its an 80 and there are tonnes of parts in the USA for body stuff. Bet you can even get a roof from a wreaking yard. So no worries it all sorts it self out in the end.

I'll second that. If I were in those pics with one of my rigs, I'd like to think I would have your composure Nick. Sorry for your loss of that canoe - looks like it was a cedar-strip work of art...

I had a similar situation last winter with my 93, and I thought I hadn't lost much fluid, but it ended up taking 6 quarts to get it work. There was only a tiny puddle on the ground, but 6 quarts went somewhere....

that hurts but this will be a great opportunity to get rid of that ugly, heavy 80 series body and build a truely nice cruiser with some of the best cruiser mechanicals ever made

Bad luck Nick. I put my 45 over like that and did the self recovery thing with my winch. At the point you are at now I let the winch out slowly with the wheels turned down hill and slowly let myself coast to level enough ground to keep from rolling. Sorry I can't help with the AT problem.
Although it will be a costly fix, it is a neat experience to walk away unscathed from.

I too am glad that you and your party survived and were not injured. I guess that you could call your canoe an airbag. I would make sure that you tow strap your rig to a nearby tree instead of relying on your winch. I have mine let go on me (warn 8274 and the clutch dog froze in the open position while in use). So how does it feel to be "experienced"?

you might even consider pulling off the rack when you go to finish up the recovery-- its obviously pretty beat up anyway and adds a bit of top weight.

Nick - Maybe you could hire a flat deck trailer to tow your cruiser back once you are on a main logging road. If BCAA wan't or if the tow truck is going to be mega bucks.

Its super cool that you documented the event like you did. Even cooler that you guys were able to self recover. Lots of '4wheelers' would have sat there and waited for the motor league.

Well, I must say that from all kudos and well wishers on this board, you definately left an impact on all of us.
From this very educational "Hands on" experience, you seem to be radically climbing the "Yeah, I've done that" ranks. With the suggestion of acquiring replacement body pannels from the 'States, wouldn't it be nice to have the same option with that once beautiful canoe (I'm sure the next time you go to build a canoe it will get produced faster).

Nick, that is such a disappointment, especially after you've put so much money into the truck (and time into the canoe!).
