That's pretty nice metalwork. What are you going to do with the openings you cut in the metal tube. Might almost be worth it to cover them with something you're done so it doesn't fill up with mud/silt.

Nice jack too, although it's probably a good bit older than the truck. :D

Thanks

Not sure what I'll do about the holes. 4 of the openings incorporate the body mounts. I may just coat the heck out of the inside and try to keep it clean. Something to seal the holes would be great I just don't have it figured out yet.

Ya the jack was definately made before the rig but it's still a good fit. I have a newer one but this one has a "cool" factor with the wooden handle and the wire stretcher ;).

Pillar Holes

Well back to filling PO holes. I'm pretty sure I have this one figured out but thought I might save myself some work by asking first. This time I promise to pay closer attention the the answers. (see post 26 from Dusty then post 47 from me )

My plan is to fill the holes as marked on the photos. What do ya think.

scored some parts

So last night at the hamburger stand a guy strikes up a conversation. I tell him he has a nice car and that I'm doing a 65 FJ40. He says Oh ya, I bought a 66 off the lot and kept it for 40 years, just sold it while back. You got any interest in some parts I still have. I say heck ya what do you got. I gave him my number and he called me today. His junk is my treasure!

wanna sell me the tool bag?

:D

If I loose my job and I'm headed to the poor house you'll be the first to know. Hows that!

Ya It was really neat because as it turned out my son knows the guy and used to sell him parts and my sister in law used to work with his wife. It's a small world.

Not much new to see. I have to remount the rotisserie so I have better access to the fenders that I have to cut some rust out. (what I was doing when I got the call). Once I get the body parts replaced it should start moving a little faster.

Congrats on yours by the way. It's way nice! Good job tunning it up! Oh and my tool kit is missing all the tune up stuff so you don't want it anyway;)

NOW your really pissing me off. Standing in line, someone says "Hey, want some parts." Sure, why not. Sheez. All I see standing in line are, well, other people standing in line. What ya doin' with those hub caps?

yep

Well I have to say it does feel nice to have something go your way for once. as far as the caps go, I'm not sure. I have 5 on order, 2 with holes. But i think I'm going to look for the parts to remove my lockers and if I do then I need them. Just not sure yet.

Fantastic!!! That is a awesome story, and for what it's worth, I'd keep all this stuff no matter what...and I know, as I'd love those caps and tool pouch as well...hell I'd be happy with those chrome rings

Seriously, must be real nice to have something like this happen...congrats

fenders

Well a while back I ordered some new steel for a rear fender with the intention of replacing some rust. I remounted my rig in the rotisserie today and started looking things over to develop a plan. I only bought 1 fender part because 1 would be enough if I cut it right. I am trying to keep this thing as near org as I can. I want it to at least look the part. Something I noticed and thought I would share is that the "factory replica" Is off by 1 inch in 2 places. If I bought 2 complete fenders then no one would notice (but I would know). As luck would have it the parts that don't line up are the parts I need to replace. So I'll cut an inch off the bottom and add an inch to the short section. Oh well I guess it's only a minor set back but as slow as I am.....

Rust removal

Started cutting out the rust today. I decided to go at it a little different and I'm cutting out the rust plus 1/2 to 1'' of good solid steel then cutting out the patch from the fender. This replacement part turned out to be 1/4" narrower than the orgl. I have to add a 1/4" a small pain in the rear. I got one piece ready to weld in place but it is raining today and I don't want to roll it outside. On the underside of the body I use a spot blaster to clean up the metal before I weld and I have to do that outside. Maybe tomorrow.

On a different note what can anyone tell me about the jerry can holder I have. It looks like it could have been home made but probably not. It bolts to the spare tire rack. Do you know who made these? Google wasn't any help. Were they any good? not sure if I'll use it but if I don't I need to know more about it so I can trade for something cool.

It could be a home made copy of the old Confer gas can holder. I have one I picked up somewhere over the last twenty years. If I remember correcctly it has a stud out the top that you use to tighten a clamp. Then a lock was used. The reason I remember the lock is mine has a lock on it that I don't have the key for.:frown:

Ya that's what I'm thinking. The big round thing at the top is a 1/2" or so thick rubber washer that applies pressure to the top/handle of the can and then a lock goes through the holes.

Thanks.
