Would you trade in your Land Cruiser for a Rivian R1S/R1T?

Generally speaking, okay. But, This test was was of 2k teardrop with a tiny frontal area and probably 1/2-1/3 of any wakeboadding boat. And in my example I towed up the sierras. And both the tundra and rivian did the SAME test.
It may not seem like it but I'm agreeing with you. You likely did better than an EV would. They'll have a hard time competing with the amount of energy stored in a tank of gasoline, and the more demanding the towing, the less they can depend on slick aero and LRR passenger car tires on sedans, the more apparent that will be. In the big picture that rivian may have had the small battery but that is also a super easy trailer to drag around.. even if it requires more energy than a 2klb slab of steel.

But based on the aero profile I'd say a boat is probably better off than a teardrop, even if it has more frontal area.. I'm no aerospace engineer though.

Wonder how Ford Electric truck would do on same test the Rivian did. After seeing this test and data I am even more sure I see no EV in my near or extended future, do not suit what I do driving. Also with Ford Truck EV and soon to be Chevy Truck EV why buy a Rivian. The Ford and Chevy dealer network etc.... and assumption that technology is just as advanced why go with no name no market no support network Rivian. I understand Tesla as they built it all from ground up. However if any of big 4 had copied them from day 2 does anyone thing they would still exist at this point?

What? The rivian went 150 miles. For an LC to only go 150 miles that would be 6.25 mpg. Wouldn’t A stock LC would be double that +?

I recently got 12 towing a heavy ass boat up to Tahoe and back (+6000ft).
I tow a 22’ camper all summer and rarely get over 9.5 mph. With a strong headwind on flat ground going 55-60 mph I regularly can get <8mpg. Stock ‘13 LX on 33’s.

I am very happy to have a proper tow vehicle so that I don't have to worry about this with the Cruiser. The most I can see our Cruiser towing would be a Casita travel trailer and they are just shy of 2500lbs dry and no more than 3000llbs wet and loaded with gear, a breeze for the 200.

Maybe not proper, but that doesn't mean not capable. The best part of the cruiser for me is that she does just about everything well. Road trips with the 8k trailer in tow. Drop the trailer to use as a base camp. Then continue into the backcountry with all the goodness of that capability and comfort. Couple days exploring with RTT and basics, then circle back to base camp and continue on. Hard pressed in my mind to find anything else with this mix of capability and capacities. At least for the moment. And maybe many years after that, before an EV can pickup the torch here.

Boats usually tow pretty good as they have better aero and smaller frontal area than campers and RVs. Aero load usually has a bigger impact than weight.
No body believes me when I tell them I get better MPG while towing my camper when my canoe is on the roof vs no canoe. Canoe diverts air around the camper vs camper hitting air full on.

This picture reminds me of the movie “Hills have eyes”. Be careful out there. 😉

This is a little off topic, but with the new generation of E-Trailers, I have a suspicion they may actually breathe some life into these v8 "relics" in the near future. A fully charged e-trailer could give a good boost to the MPG over a long haul.

I am against EV for a multitude of reasons. That being said, if I can push my 6,000# tanks around with a plug in trailer - that would be pretty sweet.

Im not against anything outright other than the massive hype and bloated marketing to everything. Its literally all hype. Tesla is just lying about features and dates at this point, so have half the other vaporware brands, built on literal lies. These are the same silicon valley scumbags who are now building the “future” of cars. I love the technology sure, but i despise the culture behind it too. Tesla is now disabling seat adjustment on peoples cars OTA because their engineering or manufacturing or QC sucks and they dont want to fix broken motors. Look it up if you dont believe me.

These companies and products should not be hyped up anymore nor should anyone reward them with $1 of their money. Im kinda irritated by all of it, i dont mean to insult anyone but stop simping after s***. It makes everything awful and empowers all the worst POS in society.

And they’re moving to Texas!!!! 😉

Agree, mediocrity and poor quality “craftsmanship“ are becoming the norm. As is everything that’s being shoved down our throats.

Human race is fubared.

Im supposed to interview for a security systems project management - facilities design and development position soon at Tesla. A recruiter called me last week. I may get to see what that place is like from the inside. Ive heard horrible things in my industry.

Society is already heading downward. I’m curious to see where we are in 10yrs with this EV vs ICE. I believe Commifornia is going to stop the sales of new ICE vehicles in 2030 or 35.

I dont know how many of yall know this but the city of Austin is literally a ponzi scheme.

The local and state government brings mego corps here, without any support to the tax base, no infrastructure provisions (there is not enough water for the new chip plants for example and we are one our 4th boil water notice in 3 years) and goes along with them importing 80% of the jobs from where they relocated to for the promise of “economic” growth.

Adler, our mayor, who you may know as the one that took the covid emergency planning conf call from cancun in early 2020 (not the senator who fled to cancun last winter during the complete utlities collapse) PERSONALLY owns half a billion dollars of property in the city. Residential and commercial. Meanwhile regular development is stifled and the city is radically gentrified. There is literally uncapped foreign investment competing with local buyers (around 30% institutional money buying SFHs). Round rock was the top destination for foreign investment in the entire country last year… Look any of this up if you don’t believe me.

They will slaughter your quality of life at the alter of unfettered corruption and greed to enrich themselves and turn around and place blame on everybody else and parade behind identity politics. Dont get me wrong, i am a “capitalist” but none of this is capitalism. This is centrally planned cronyism from the fed down to your city council.

Now they wanna sell you a $75k s***box rivian so they can turn off your car when the corporate bodies needs meet the peak electricity demand. I read something yeaterday that as a nation, we don’t have the surplus electric capacity for the amount of AC we will be needing in the near term. Now we have to charge a car every night by 2030-2040? In what scenario is this supposed to magically all work out when everything around is crumbling, let alone flourishing. Because some tech jabrony from california made a power point presentation and was handed $10B? Go to any of their offices in CA; ive been to all of them, %60 of the workers are indian imports because we wont even pay to educate our ****ing population.

**** this s*** im never giving up my 201!!! Take it from my dead cold no utilities polar vortex collapse frostbitten hands a******.

My buddy is a business owner in Austin and the surrounding areas and he's told me about this in more detail, it's insane. Politicians getting away with crimes that every day people would get strung up on in a matter of days and yet nothing ever happens to them.

You should buy a H1 just for the commute to Tesla.

That would be awesome.

I still can't wrap my head around the contradiction of a Hummer parking in an EV charging spot.

If you're outraged by that, wait until you hear about this little thing called the "stock market" and what goes on there.

Lol! 🤣The difference with real estate, it effects local elections, housing price increases, taxes, sales, etc.. American housing is one of the cheapest places for foreigners to park money and many of the homes go unused. I can spend entire afternoon giving a seminar on this topic and I’m sure many of you know the issues as well. Seems to me the folks on here are pretty bright.
