400 miles / 24 gallons = 16.67 MPG 🤔

Hehe, tis true. I don't deny some of this is my own undoing. Props to the brave guy using all 24 gallons, maybe with the safety of a jerry.

My typical fill is 18-21 gallons leaving some reserve. I drive hard and fast, and perhaps on my best days, see peaks of 16.5 MPG. Now that I'm modded on 35s, with my driving style, average nominally 13-15MPG. To be fair, the Cybertruck is slated to come with 35s and 500 mile range.

Stock tank - 21 gallons * 15 MPG = 315 miles
Stock + Aux tank - 35 gallons * 15 MPG = 525 miles


I wonder when we will see huge battery tankers that can pull up and top up or charge 4 teslas to full at a remote stop.

While electricity cant be delivered like gas as was pointed out earlier, a giant battery can surely be hauled. Seems like a good service business to me.

I would guess it would be a good venture for next 10 years or so until the charge networks proliferate.

Good test to simulate being stuck on the highway in the cold in an electric car.
The conclusion is, tow an EV around with you during the winter in case your 200 runs out gas while being stranded. 🤣

Surprising! I did not expect anywhere near such good results in an EV. 25% battery drain for 12 hours of idling is excellent. However the author did mention playing with different heating modes, potentially not using air heating and relying on heated seat/wheel, etc. I'd be curious to see the numbers for purely air-vent heating, to keep the air temperature at a comfortable level. In either case, that's great news (to me).

Big difference being stuck at night in a windy snowstorm, vs daylight on a calm day. Up here in Michigan, on a sunny calm 20°F day, a car parked outside will be not that cold inside, windows will be melted clear. At night you don't have all that solar-oven heating, and if it is windy and snowing, your warm cabin loses a lot of heat quickly. Not only does the wind across the windows, floor pan, and roof take away heat, I would expect some cold outside air is getting in.

The beginning range was kind of crappy though. Otherwise i dont see why it wouldnt whip the pants off our 5.7 drinkers in every other way.
Idling is like its achilles heel. If youre in a 200 though, hit the texas exit or texas detour! Funny if you dont know about it already look it up.

Ok so not a Rivian's truck but the Ford F150 Electric The youtube video is on charging. I would imagine that Rivian and Tesla trucks will be similar. Key things were at 120volt 20amp charging time is 80+hours. At 240volt 80amp charging time is 10 to 8 hours. With high output DC charger 40 minutes to 80% (super charging stations). All numbers make since for use on daily basis within 250 miles of ones home but not really sure how any of these numbers translate to an overlanding vehicle. Maybe I missing something. Just FYI most homes under 3000sq feet have 200amp service to house and run close to that load you would not realistically be able to add 80amp charger with out upgrade to your current service. Interesting viewing for someone that has never owned electric.

For home charging one thing to consider is you essentially have a fuel pump at home. Get home and plug it in. Recharging is nothing like refueling an ICE, every day when you get home for the day you just plug it in and walk away. How often you drive the distance of “rated range” in one day? For me most days I drive 20-50 miles, my wall connector is 240/50amp. I get that range back in ~1-2.5 hrs.

Let's get to the LX600H which still hasn't broken cover. The 300-series has been pretty boring honestly without anything new or substantial to really set it apart. While it has made incremental forward progress, there's arguably progress backwards too (beloved tailgate!). If the new Tundra hybrid is any further indication, the 600H just doesn't offer enough to get excited about. They're staying true to quality and durability for markets like Australia and the Middle East, so perhaps it's I who have drifted.

I don't discredit Toyota as they must have done something right to reclaim the largest automaker in the world. Just hope they don't continue to sleep on that success.

Sure, it's driven by some parts availability logistics, but the 300-series looks to be a success on the world market? Toyota didn't get to be the behemoth it is by making wrong business choices. We've always known the Land Cruiser is primarily built for other markets and the US audience is a lesser priority. So perhaps it is the US customers, myself included, that have drifted from the core Land Cruiser brand, to these new fangled technologies and EVs?

Does this not borne well for a potential re-introduction of the LC to the US market? And Toyota truly understands our demands here with a broader 4Runner and Sequoia to cover that space?

My cash cow hypothesis i still stand behind. Toyota knows what they have and know what they can get away with.
But that being said, im not trying to be cocky, we will all have to wait and see how the generation holds up over time to make solid judgements.

Where do I find the shaunos review? I have been glancing over the 300 and it seems worse in every way than the 200 other than torque? Maybe I missed something? This is reminding me of how I hated the 200 for years and loved the 100 until 7 years later when the 200 grew on me (total ex 100 purist). The biggest issue I see is that the 300 has reduced leg room which is a huge pet peeve of mine coming from S class Benzes and 7 series BMWs. I was expecting 300 to have even more leg room than the 200 and was wishing for alot more.

Cybertruck is delayed until 2023 which I means I will be lucky if I see one in 2025 hopefully by then they will have super batteries that go 600 miles on a charge. I think thats the new 200 replacement currently even though I prefer 3 row SUVs. I think the cybervault will be much easier to sleep in than the 200. Elon Musk did deliver with model 3 being a fun bmw 3 series like car. People love them. My gut is with the cybertruck he is going after overlanders but I don't know what will happen once you put some offroad tires on it.

I too am a 100 purist and i will curse Toyota for eternity for taking away my rear third window venting.
The 100 is so timeless and perfect i still look for them but its impossible.

The 200 did grow on me too, but it is improving on almost everything over the 100.
The list of what was reduced or removed or changed from the 300 is insane in a bad bad way.
The problem is all the improvements for that cost, just like you said were marginal at best.
Nothing like the 100-200 leap in power, heft, suspension, basically everything was improved.

If i were you i would seriously consider Rivian R1S or Hummer EV truck or SUV. Best in class for what you are looking for IMO.
 
The feature set on this is OUT OF CONTROL. More than even i would want to play with at this age.

Dismal rivian results in this very useful test
Makes a great short distance towing vehicle. The Tundra is by far the better option. Get that Rivian towing off-road and the range will really drop off. I’ll stick with ICE for the foreseeable future.

Its also throttling horsepower a lot based on charge level. The batteries cant sustain peak output past 90% charge or something. That was also a buzzkill. So you dont know how much range there is or power?!?
