Low PS fluid...Who would have thought. Happy that was solved and the noise has gone away.

I would not have thought so either. PS pumps for GM are quite different and all you get is the very familiar "cat stuck under the hood" sound. What I'm guessing is these pumps really don't like air bubbles in the impeller and that the non-constant load on the pump was hammering against the drive gear.

While the fluid level removed 90% of my noise I'm still not 100% out of the woods .... I'm still able to detect a slight tick that I believe is coming from the famous (famous for a 1FZ) "knick on the PS gear". If the gear on the PS pump receives the slightest amount of damage it will make a sound almost identical to a rod bearing knock. My hunch about the PS gear comes from the tick changing a little only when I turn the wheel. Nothing else seems to have any effect. With the warm weekend coming I hope to test this theory in a day or so.

Again, will keep everyone posted, but pleased with where things are.

Big shout of thanks to Onur for the sexy new engine gift. Now I can run any weight oil I want. :D

@Rice Here's a little "boost" of inspiration now that the motor is done.

Ahh, the Titan motor. Been for sale for some time now and, in case anyone is interested, is now reduced to $79,900 (Originally $110,000).

Now for a thread title change to Rice's 1FZ-FE-T thread!

Bring on the Booosssstttt in two weeks ;)

My conversations with the folks helping sort out OBDI (93 and 94) issues are heating up. Not prepared to change title yet but am glad to be in the learning curve to get this engine management thing solved.

But you get the whole motor program. A few blocks. Couple heads. Like 4 sets of pistons..... but if youre going rhat route might as well get the cnc billet block ... only $9000

No aluminum blocks for me please. That's one of the things I love about the 1FZ.

Ben shared with me a few stories of some all aluminum LS blocks he's had on the dyno. He pulls a vacuum on the crankcase to give him a measure of how sealed the cylinders are. After dyno pull #1 .... a few inches of mercury lost. After pull #2, MOST of the vacuum gone. After pull #3 the crankcase was actually reading positive pressure. Something no iron block would do. The engine was warping so much the cylinders wouldn't seal.

Oil change #1 today. Have not cut open the oil filter to investigate but it was a good time to put on a little flare de Beno.

Love it! Your reds appear to be a few shades off, try a different red crayon!

How about black for the "24 valve" raised letters?
