Whenever you get to that point, I know where you can get inexpensive, but quality / correct, carpet for that rig........

New late-model FJ60 and FJ62 carpet and mats FINALLY available!

dnp

Hah! I've read through that post (and the one for the earlier model '60's) like three times. Just trying to work up the courage to drop the coin on it ;-)

Honestly I would have done it already, but I committed to myself (and my wife) that first I would have it running and stopping correctly, then I would work on the interior. I want to teach my boys the right way to go about this - and the importance of priorities and trade-off's.

Once we settle out on carpet vs vinyl, we'll be in touch!

Nice patina on that truck, hope you don't paint it.

Love that you have your kids involved - that's what it is all about.

I resurrected one that had sat in the PO's garage for 7 years without being started. You will get there, just keep chipping away at it. I would plan on a carb rebuild before you get too far down the road.

As for the radiator, the aluminum replacements are great in my opinion. I have two of them and they have been flawless. They are reasonably priced. Got mine through Cruiser Corps.

Was able to spend an hour or so last night in the garage working on the cruiser.

Like everyone else, I had a non-op set of front marker lights. The d-side literally fell apart in my hands. Since this is a budget build I ordered replacement parts from ebay.

Honestly I was pleased with what I got. The connector mated to factory plug with no issues, and it even came with new plastic screw retainers! Light output is great.

We'll see how it does longer-term.

While I was working on that (and trying - AGAIN - to fix cracks in the radiator) my two middle boys got working on the horrific, bubbling tint using the steamer.

The dog joined us, and the minute the door opened she sprang inside and wouldn't get back out. I think she has a new favorite vehicle!

Spent another hour or so in the garage tonight. I got the carb adjusted, but with the air cleaner off I cant get the RPM's below about 800, is that normal? I figure it will settle down once the air cleaner is on. But thats using the lean-drop method in the FSM and with the idle screw fully backed out.

Also I have this extra vacuum hose, any idea where it goes?

When the air cleaner is in, and everything is hooked up that I can see, this one forlorn hose is left dangling - both ends.

My boys tackled the tint on the rear window and got almost all of it off. Between that and then steaming the outside, I can see out of it now!

Still have a persistent leak in the radiator. Starting to feel like I'm going to have to replace it. Sigh.

Got my Blackstone results this evening. I sent a sample of the oil that was in the truck when I bought it, so unknown miles and unknown age. I explained that in the note with the sample.

Numbers came back clean and tight. I'm running some cleansers in the oil right now, once I get ~500miles on them I'll change the oil to fresh, then give that a good run and sample it.

Another hour or so with the LC tonight, not a ton done, but I validated that my carb adjust seems pretty good with the air filter installed.

I did find this looped vacuum hose on the p-side of my engine. I can't imagine that's correct, can anyone validate/correct it?

Talking about the hose coming out of the left side of the white valve on the left side of the pic:

Also pulled both diff fill bolts. Rear diff was full, gear oil looked good and smelled good. Front diff was a different story:

Can you get birf soup in the diff? I thought the pressure pushed it out past the seals? The level was pretty high though, nearly full. Maybe the oil just has a lot of miles on it?

I get moly grease from my knuckles into my diff/axle all the time on my FJ40 and in the FZJ80 I owned. Maybe I overfill the knuckles.

Won't really hurt anything, but a good drain (get it hot and let it drain overnight) and refill would be advised.

I believe the vcv routing is correct, I can’t seem to insert the pic from my iPad but see the link below

Been slow on the 60 lately, I've had to tackle some house stuff instead. While that has its own gratification, I'd much rather be in the garage!

I did sneak half an hour tonight, and inspired by @Aloha Jen 's HJ60 rebuild, I freshened up the rear vents.

Cleaned the plastic, put in new flaps (mine were totally gone) and installed new foam to seal them to the body.

This afternoon @PoloSlayer tackled the broken shock mount. After an hour or so, he was rewarded with one half mount laying in the driveway. We ran out of time to get the rivets all the way removed, so no pictures of the finished product, but I got an action shot of poloslayer.

Also got a package in the mail today!

I snuck out into the garage for a few moments today to escape the chaos.

My cargo light is shot, so I got replacement from a guy parting an early '60. The only issue is that the connectors are different.

So I busted out the soldering iron and pulled the wires from my broken light and put them onto the replacement light.

Easy fix. But I was able to get some time in the garage.

Merry Christmas!

The wife and kids left town this morning for a week long trip to see her folks. I stayed home (someone has to take care of the dog.) After getting chores done around the house I got to the cruiser after lunch

First order of business was torching out the rivets from the (now removed) front shock tower.

20171227_114649.jpg

Then I cleaned up the area, and started fishing bolts through from the backside. I used a magnetic retrieval tool, and went in from the opening on the right.

For those of you fortunate enough to get to do this at some point, it's an exercise in patience. But eventually I got there, and welded the bolts in using a cheapo MIG.

The welds aren't pretty, but they really just need to hold the bolts through tightening.

A quick coat of paint, then I mounted up the shock.

Glad to have that done!
