Any tricks or key learnings? What ultimately worked for you?
I think I finally decided to use some stiff wire to wrap around the circumference of the nut (like a noose) and fished it up in the frame until I could line it up with the hole and start the bolt. But I don't remember about the lock washer. Looking back at it I'd probably use a nut with captive lock washer - there are quite a few nuts like that on my FJ6Xs.

Thanks. I haven't started tackling it yet, but I was contemplating sleeveing it. That's a bit of overkill for sure, but its a handy solution to the problem and makes it future-proof in case I ever want to get into that stuff again. I suppose I could also weld it on, but that's not my first choice.

could you do it in reverse? feed the bolts through the inside of the frame rail and
the nuts threaded on the outside of the rail up against the shock tower...then weld
as well.

Just a thought

That's not a bad idea, especially if I put some of those star washers on the bolts, then they hold themselves as they snug up to the frame. I wish I could get in there to tack on a bolt or nut with the welder. I wonder if there would be a small gap b/n the sides of the bolt and the frame wall - I'd only need like 1/16" to lay a bead there? Hmmmmmm.......

When I rebuilt my PS pump I noticed that the pulley is pretty wallered-out.

The system just needs to hold me for a few months until I can replace it with a Saginaw. So in the mean time I filled it with quiksteel and molded the key into it. I'l let it harden, then sand it down contiguous with the rest of the pulley.

Set the boys to work sanding the emblems, and got a couple of coats of rustoleum metallic bronze sprayed.

I continue to make slow progress on the '60. What would have been a 2hr DMV trip was a 15min lunchbreak stop at AAA today. I dropped a hefty chunk on the back fees, ordered the replacement title, and got everything squared away.

Honestly I was worried about this step. There was a mound of paperwork, but the chain of custody was potentially questionable. So I am relieved it worked out.

This evening I patched a hairline crack in the radiator, but it's an ugly fix so no pics ;)

I found that the dome light contacts are rusted, I get only intermittent light so I need to clean those up. The cargo light disintegrated in my hand, going to have to replace that. I did a small amount of adjusting on the carb, I feel like it still needs a lot of tuning.

I have also found that I have no running lights or dash lights, although headlights/breaklights/turn lights work, and dash indicator lights work. Is there a relay that powers these? Anywhere I can get an EDW? I am missing my fuse box cover, so I don't know what goes to where. I have the top silver relay, but an empty spot on the bottom right-hand side of the fuse panel. Should that be populated? If so, with what?

I sanded down the quiksteel on the pulley, pretty pleased with the results for a cheap and quick fix.

Sorry about the blurry pic.

Got the PS put back together and the OEM belt installed. The PS pump appears to be holding fluid, and it' working well. No leaks, so at least the reseal worked.

Some wobble in the pulley though, not sure I'll get even 6mos out of it.

I'm sure you can find a used pulley, Any wobble in the pulley to shaft interface will exacerbate quickly.

If you can't find a pulley - I hesitate to suggest this, it's a poor solution, but if you just need a few months service from it, and the pulley is junk already - tighten the nut up snug and weld the pulley to the nut with two opposing tack welds. You can grind the weld off and save the pump later.

Snuck a minute tonight out at the LC. I'm trying to bird-dog my lights issue. Does anyone know what relay is missing in the bottom left corner of this panel?

Driver footwell, inverted underneath the dash. On-vehicle that corner is closest to the firewall and the d-side wheel.

IIRC that's the tailight relay. it's the same as that silver one so you can swap it out and see what starts working...or just jump the two parallel terminals

I believe it is the "Tail light control relay" but it is a different pin-out from the silver one, I checked for exchangeability last night:(

Hmm...well I've used them interchangeably for diagnostic purposes without a problem...mines an 84 though

I found a printout for an '86 relay block, but the printout looks different than what I have, so not sure what's going on. Appreciate your input though!

Got a new relay installed this evening, no change. Next to check on the list is the ground underneath the rear body.

Had 5mins after work tonight before running to a commitment, so I grabbed a 10mm wrench and a piece of sandpaper and hit the ground bolt underneath the body at the rear sill.

Presto!

Taillights, running lights and dash Lights!

I love easy fixes.
