I was thinking conversationally when I made my comment early this morning, but realized it could have been construed to dampen the outcome of the auction and I didn’t want that!

I had just responded about yesterdays 78 with the poop emojis, and how I thought it was a market indicator that people would rather have a driver than a restored 40 they’d be afraid to get dirty, but I was sure wrong on that and I’m not afraid to admit it!

The FJ market is what we call in valuation a “Bifurcated market”. 1) drivers/“daily” etc. and 2) collectors/nut and bolt restorations. It’s very important to understand which market the vehicle (house art etc.) competes in. If you’re firmly in one camp the other often seems crazy or illogical. Hence the term “trailer queen” by the people in the driver camp.
People and vehicles often have a foot in each camp, but most have a primary group they “compete” in (when it comes to price or value). “Trifurcated” when you consider rock crawlers or “hardcore” as the group is referred to on Mud! On my current build I am trying to build a daily/ rock crawler.. Mike Shull’s rig is a great recent build example! (These tend to be CO/UT/ID/CA rigs because of all the damn rocks.) Three somewhat distinct markets, particularly when selling (as opposed to owning driving). Back to work…

Great explanation.
I’m all about that hardcore/crawler/daily with really nice paint and seats. I want it all!

@Mike Shull spotted me up Poughkeepsie and down Black Bear, my first wheeling trip of any kind. His rig is great. Not really enough body roll for my taste though…
