The same was true for many in the FJ Cruiser side of things. The guys that spent ungodly amounts of money on a truck were revered, cant say if they still are. I found that a 3" lift and armor front to back with locker and ATRAC, that thing went almost anywhere. It took a while to get accustomed to intentionally using the Bud Built skids getting over obstacles.

Words often heard in our truck on particularly rough trails "Thanks Bud" right after a big boom on the skids

Personally, and I can only speak for myself, I enjoy seeing all the variations in the older vehicles and how each owner has made their personal stamp on their truck. I am, of course, partial to 40's and appreciate them for what they are, tough trucks with a penchant for eating dollar bills. Hopefully we can keep the Relic Run just that, older vehicles that have survived with owners who keep them running. The 40's are in the minority on other runs so let us have our day in the woods.

Seems like most people on this thread are of the same opinion.....if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well....at least when it comes to the Relic Run that is!

Yeah the fixing comes before, to get ready, and after, to fix the broken parts, the relic run.

Premise #1 .... I don't have a dog in the fight .... I'm not a member of your fine club, I don't own a 40 Series* and I may never have the opportunity to attend your Relic Run.
..... however in my opinion, your event will lose some of its character if you start fudging on whose eligible and whose not. The 1990 and prior requirement is probably where you guys need to stay.

* I own a furrin 70 Series.

Stop screwing with me guys. I bought Buster Brown only to participate in the Relic Run. My newer junk can make it down for other events just fine (as soon as I get them fixed). :steer:

It is what it is.... don’t mess with it trying to follow a DMV standard for defining an age.

#40life

My 16 yr old son drove his -80, rode with us old relics in the AM, and then wheedled his truck on his own time.

Much effort was put into making sure to include us old farts and the old trucks....

I think we need to have an Old Age and Treachery Run, where only relic trucks (pre-'90) and drivers over the age of 50 are allowed to participate. I'd be in for that next year. Of course we will need a 4x4 ambulance support vehicle on the trails in case any of us break a hip.

Fear not guys. We have a good thing going and we don’t intend to make any drastic changes. I’ll be sending out a survey soon to collect feedback. While it was an amazing event we always strive to do better.

Guys,
This is Jeff Strite from Capital Club out of Northern Va. I was in the dune beige forty last weekend without a top and the Vizsla hunting dog riding along. First I’d like to say thank you and what a great event. We just had our monthly club meeting Wednesday and the overwhelming consensus was to return next year for your event and put it on our regular rotation. We are GSMTR regulars, but if we can only do one spring event, the Relic Run will be where we are at. The main reason I am posting is in regards to the amazing relic Run photos that were taken. I was wondering if you guys have thought about doing posters or wrap around frame enlargements of the best photo and possibly doing a sale as a fundraiser. I would think everyone who was there would jump at the chance to buy an enlargement of the photo. Sites like Shutterfly and others make it so cheap and easy to do a mass printing and offer it to all the folks who attended and would love a copy. Since you have proprietary rights to the event and photo, I would think no one would hesitate to pay a decent premium to get their hands on enlargements and you guys could make a nice Vig on each unit sold as a club fundraiser. Just an idea I had and I thought it was worth mentioning. Thx again for such a fabulous event and we cannot wait to return next year

coil springs are modern tech. leaf springs are a relic. i 'm in the 1990 and older thought.

My 69 has coil over shocks on the front, I thought they were add ons but Darin told me they came as stock options. :)

@Tikicruiser

Glad you guys could come joinnus and had a good time. Next year i have to do better about getting around to all the different camps to say hello.

I did notice that lazy beast of yours has some serious lounging skiils that even rival the brown dogs here. Awesome
