Didn't want to muddy up the Relic Run thread with this point of discussion:

Any thoughts on the cutoff date "Pre 1990" for the CRR shifting over time? IE: Next year it's Pre - 1991, followed by 1992 the next year?.... etc..

It was a legitimate question posed on Facebook:

"At what point will an 80 series be considered a relic? (if ever)" - certainly up for interpretation/discussion.

But ultimately, it doesn't have to change, the CRR could ALWAYS remain 89 and prior, and certainly the attendance proves that.

However, if it doesn't change I wonder if a "80 Series Run" or a "90's or newer" type event would be good since we do have a LOT of 80's in the club.

Any random thoughts to contribute to or from the folks that make these types of decisions?

Awww, are some of the 80 and 100 guys feeling left out? :flipoff2:

Everyone asking these questions knows that non-relics are welcomed and encouraged to attend Carolina Relic Run, right? The only two disadvantages to a non-relic owner are that they can't win a driver's raffle prize, and that they can't participate in the "relic run", which is a 2 hour bunny trail ride Saturday morning.

Relic Run was born to attract guys with older trucks back out to events. If you take a look around most major events these days, including logan's run, the majority of trucks are 80 series and newer. There's no need for a "90s or newer" event because every event is mostly that already.

I'm not in a decision making position anymore, but I think it should always stay 1990 or older to recognize, and put focus on, the Land Cruiser models that originally defined the name "Land Cruiser".

Even sans Relic, it's an awesome event open to all, so I don't see changing the year cutoff. Just one man's opinion, and opinions are like...

While I was at my very own No Relic Run Pity Party this weekend, the idea of a sub-event occurred: Carolina Luxury Run. If 80 and 100 owners feel excluded, think about those among us shamed by the circle-L logo on vehicles built this century... We could go to RR, but do a mall run during the actual Relic Run.

Gangsta and Grunge Run for 1990's only? Requirements are black hats, black denim from head to toe, and timberland boots (for the gangstahs), nasty unwashed hair, plaid long sleeve shirts over novelty tshirts, scruffy jeans and vans for the grungies...may have to work in some sort of country reference, since pop country exploded during that decade too...

I was only able to stay for about an hour, and was blown away, not just from the overall turnout of vehicles at the event (even though a bunch were on trail runs), but there must have been a bazillion white 80 series...

I think a classic car is anything over 25 years now??? Might be wrong on that one but a rolling 25 could work if the club wanted to change that.

To me though a relic should be leaf springs and carbs, or an era appropriate diesel

I agree with Al. The technology on the vehicles compared to more modern Cruisers is what makes it a Relic not the age.

I brought my 80 down and had a blast.

Other clubs have Wagon runs, someone could put that together. I don't like pushing it to newer for the exact reasons quoted above. No need for me to regurgitate.

How about adding a drivers raffle prize for 80's and newer models.

It could be a starbucks gift card :hillbilly:

I think the 1989/90 cutoff is good for the Relic Run. Not sure the age of the various 70 series that showed up, but given how "unique" those are stateside, they should be able to play too

Maybe have a participation trophy :poop: for all us 80,100,120,150, and 200 series owners.... Maybe a seperate 50/50 raffle for the modern rigs(dont know if the club's non-profit status would allow that), where 50% of the money goes to the club/event kitty, 25% goes to one ticket, 15% to another ticket, and 10% to a 3rd place ticket. Just a thought.

70 series have been considered "relics" for this event for that reason.

Yep.

This club wouldn't know a relic if it popped out of gear and ran over them!!!

$50 gift card to a mall of your choice.

Leaf springs = relics - just drive one down the highway and you know it :)

I think the 80 suspension is better than IFS on the road.

Seriously? Prizes for vehicles that don’t meet the criteria for inclusion at an event that very clearly spells out the requirements for inclusion? And that sponsors donate to based on the specific criteria for inclusion? 80’s and newer are VERY well represented at every event we put on and thus far have been the focus of most sponsor donations for club events (ahem, Logan’s Run). Let the oldsters have their day and be happy for it.

Aren't you going to tell us to get off your lawn?

100 series guy here. 1990 and older is the way to go.

25 rolling would get some modern stuff quick.

What is a leaf spring? Baahaa.

That’s implied, of course, but thanks for bringing it up. Where were you this winter when the kids knocked down my rock wall by sledding in 1” of snow??? At least is wasn’t at 4am like the last time when I greeted them with the sound of an 870 racking one into the chamber.
