Biggest worry is that the Turkish officials in customs decide that this is an opportune time for Onur-jack to start his 18-month mandatory conscription stint on the Iraq border.

I guess my rebuild would have to wait awhile....anyone interested in adopting a well behaved old english sheepdog for 18 months?

That would really suck.. by chance, does Turkey have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy?... its an option

:lol::lol::lol:

I just puked up coffee through my nose!

No policy that I know of. They just beat the crap out of you even more and put a mop in your hand instead of a Koch MP5....

Homosexuality is very verboten in Turkish society.....

English Sheepdogs are great dogs. We'd love to, as long as it would
1. Fit through the dog doors (big enough for a Lab), and
2. Get along with our dogs - we'd have to "meet" in a neutral location. When do you leave?

I doubt it is going to be a problem. But it is always a remote possibility when I enter and leave the country. No issues as of yet (and since 1981 when I started going back to visit).

I have an education deferment right now and I bring paperwork with me when I enter and leave the country (Turkish military officials are always at airports trying to stop other dodgers as well).

Thanks for the offer though Steve!

Now you're thinking out of the box Ron! Does anyone still have that video of Onur when the first cold snap came through last fall?

Onur -

Enjoy yourself, and be careful.

If possible, we would appreciate some pictures of Turkish Cruisers and/or any other Toyotas.

Have a good time!

Mike,

OK, back to the task at hand. I have a tranny jack if you need it.

Robbie is available for work and only working the trail team part time this year. Just a 6 hour drive up I-25 :D

Lexusben did mine last year and they are Precision gears. The thing I heard is trickey is the rear shims, you don't know which one you need till you get to it. Thats one of the reasons Robbie has a set, but then Dan (onur) probably has all the shims you need right there.

I would make sure the place your going to understands the shimming.

Good Luck Mike

if you need it, the Shawn-jack may be available. probably not as strong as Jon's tranny jack, but at least i dress like a guy.

Hey guys-

The shimming really isn't a big deal at all. Instead of adjusting the backlash with screw adjusters like on a min-truck or 80 series front diff, or open 80 series rear, the locked rear is adjusted with shims just like every Dana axle found on the trail. U-joints is familiar with the setups and shouldn't have any trouble getting it right. Furthermore, there should be gear marking compound on the gears when the diffs are picked up to allow verification of a proper setup before installing in the vehicle.

I'm sorry I can't get to it in a timely manner, but I'm confident that U-joints will take care of the project properly.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Use my personal email (reklund5@comcast.net) as I don't get on the forum too often...

The shimming isn't the hard part, its very straight-forwards. Getting the shims is. Last I heard there were none in the US other than those belonging to private installers (Poser, Slee?, my installer has some, etc.)

Question for Dan: Do you stock these shims?

-Mike-

DAAAAANG! There are 23 sizes of those things! And they won't be cheap ... $4.03 - $4.74 each. So tell me again. Why electric instead of ARB?

Beno and Locrwln1 have them if Dan doesn't have them handy...

Poser has a full set of 46 (from me) as does a guy in Reno that I just sent out. Robbie has several thicknesses, as does Christo.

I would stock them but they would sit for a year and my computer would tell me to send them back..................................Unless I billed them to the service department...

I don't have any....yet.

;)

My friend Kirk in Akron, OH, is in the process of making every single sized shim for the rear diff. He is going to try them on his re-gear project and if they work well will be making a large batch to compensate for the lack of availability of these shim in NA (and the time lag to get them).

But unfortunately, he won't have them ready in time for Mike's regear.

Soon though....

Dan,

Why the need for 46 shims (2 sets)? Is this 23 for front and 23 for rear or all 46 for the rear? If all 46 for the rear, then only 23 shims(1 set) are needed as you cannot fit two of the same shims in the same diff from what I'm hearing. This info is from the guy in Reno. He'll be selling the remaining 43 shims!
