Any chance you saw the old timing chain guides & had the plastic inner of either pulled loose of the metal arm?

Miles on motor as you were breaking it down for machine work?

Just curious - long ago Christo said that was common but not a serious problem as the plastic stayed close to where it was on day 1, it just dropped a bit but chain still held it where it acted like the guide works.
The engine had 238k miles when I tore it down and the chain guides looked very good.

After a week at work and lots of yard work, the head and cams are in.
I think it went well enough to give myself a lifetime warranty. Haha

In step with documenting what I’m doing here I’ll post briefly on the installation of a turbo oil return port in -10AN. Seems welders around here lack confidence in welding on a cast AL oil pan even though it’s very clean so I bought a bulkhead fitting that came with seal washers and then I added to that liberal amounts of black FIPG.

Don’t most put that in the lower oil pan ?
I located it exactly where Johnny of Cruiser and Company locates theirs because, if I turbo charge, I’ll most likely get his kit. I met him and his family at Rubithon in 2017; awesome folks to have in the Cruiser community.

I ran trails with them at Cruise Moab, agreed great folks

The oil pan hardware went up and vanished so I bought some from the local dealer and also through Belmetric.com. Oil pans on means she’s sealed up. That’s a good thing.

Howdy, summer projects had to get done before the unrelenting rains return plus the unexpected which is what I’m doing of late. The 2005 dodge 5.9 Cummins developed a misfire which was tracked down to #1 injector. I decided to save money and do it myself so I ordered a kit of tubes and brand new injectors. The entire fuel system is Bosch. Plugging away today and new injectors are in. I’m waiting on a couple parts that will arrive Monday. Exhaust rocker install is next.

Nice work Steve. Back when I had a 5.9 I didn’t have the confidence to replace injectors and paid a shop $4k for new injectors, and lift pump. You’re saving some big coin doing it your self. The engine looks great only a couple more weekends and you will be running. Make sure to prim the oil pump per FSM from the pick up port in the timing cover and I dump oil down the oil filter channel where the oil filter goes onto the top of the pump also and it works great. To the left of the oil filter bung.

Thanks for that tip Wes. I did pour more than the suggested amount of oil down the oil pump pick up port before installing the oil pan but that was a couple months ago. I left the engine upside down over night and that oil did seep from the filter mount.

Preparing the firewall for new heat rejection materials. The old shield came delaminated. This photo shows dirt removed and scotchbrite done. Alcohol clean is next.

Steve lots of work done there! Looks really good.
The pace will be picked up as fall and winter sets in. You know the drill……

Looks like a lot of work, Steve. Beautiful place you have there.
Much work it is. But in the end will be worth it. Second coat on the underside next.

We’ve been in the São Paula vicinity of Brazil to visit my wife’s family for a week now. This unlit is the only Land Cruiser (actually Bandeirante) I’ve seen so far which I find odd because last time I came several years ago I saw quite a few. This one is for sale at 80,000 Brazilian or $15k-16k depending on the exchange rate. Has zero rust sitting here beside the beach so I’m guessing it hasn’t been here it’s entire life. I’ve never seen this configuration with full back seat and only two doors.
