the anvil Weighs 2 metric tons.

If he gives you one, you're going to have to post videos of it in action!

Here we are making a few test pieces. The plan is to fabricate the brackets for my jig and some new pieces for the frame.
looking forward to learning this stuff.

Nope, he’s going to keep both.
I don’t want to work with open fire in my shop besides from the occasional torch to shrink some spots..
He‘s not to far away and it is impressive to see what the smaller hammer does.

after fixing the left side I wasn’t happy with the other side of the front hood brace.
made a new piece.

this is not going to clean up with a wire wheel.

So I got the old leather bag, some dollies and hammers and an anvil out and started banging on a piece of sheet metal.

The blacksmiths are a different type, I think they like the easy in and out.
We need to use the S3 high climbing shoes for offshore use so I kinda use them all the time.

continued working on the ends of the subframe for the hood.
still lots of hammering which is tough for my shoulder so a little bit at a time.

here I started with the other side.

As I will be working with the blacksmith I thought it wood be wise to clean up the frame.
one of the tub braces was very thin.
here is the thin piece and it’s replacement.

The mounting hole for the tub must be exactly in the right position so before cutting the bad piece out I made a template from 1mm sheet metal. This helps me to position the patch exactly right.

once everything was clamped in position I welded it together.

done.

Next up is cleaning the frame rails.
had some rivits to remove, some remains from P.O. welding and a few brackets.
most of it done and partly clean from old undercoating.
there is some welding required at the rear but the rest looks solid.

Got the 40 on a back burner for the moment.
A few side projects need finishing first before I have the space again.
First up is the surface plate cabinet.
F5B7763D-8496-4424-A21A-1807595D2837.jpeg

still needs some paint, corners and some finishing work on the drawers.
then we have this grinder, it has a 2 speed motor which needs a perilex socket.
I like the patina on this Swiss made machine.
4DA0740B-16AE-4E73-A71A-09ED78853636.jpeg

The surface grinder needs cleaning, testing and a paint job.
5915B6D2-08B9-4A14-B3B6-5C9D1A866ADC.jpeg

and the mill is getting a small resto.

This will keep me busy during the COVID 19 period.
more info on the progress can be found in the workshop/mancave tread in my sig.
