I thought I remember seeing someone that had bought a box that installs in interior of the tailgate. I can't find any info. Can someone point me in the right direction? Curious about stuff like...how is the interior panel on the tailgate attached?...do I just pull?...what is envolved in cutting the sheetmetall for the box install? Four 8" subs across the back behind the carpet would be great. Or, perhaps two 10" subs & a small storage box flush mounted. Any comments welcome.

Got mine, installed mine, love mine.

How long from time of order placed until at your door? I have been checking these out as well but the wait time i have seen has kept me away from buying.

Got mine too! Funny, I use it every day, but i never open it:) Took awhile but honestly worth the wait. Im sure you have a day job too:rolleyes: Might as well get on the list now, I had mine within a year.

I got mine, IIRC 8 or 9 months. Kevin rolls thru the list relatively quick.
Absolutely great storage upgrade for your 80

I wasn't trying to imply that WagonGear was lazy or anything of that nature, just trying to get an idea of amount of time it would take to get the product. From the pictures i have seen and the quality of material, it definitely looks like it is worth the wait and price.

Well you can see from the list that I was very very close to the top so once he got started on the 80s I didn't wait very long at all. Of course once I got it it took months before I finally installed.

I've got a full set of 3 (tailgate and side panels) in the cargo area of my 62 and they are hands down, without question the best mod I've ever done to the rig (and it is heavily modded...).

I use them every day and it keeps the inside of the rig crap free.

Get on the list - it is worth it. Kevin's work is topshelf

While Kevin's tailgate is sweet, I don't think this is what fzjadam is talking about... FOUR 8" subs in the tailgate I don't think I have seen anything like that.

First I thought of this: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/381803-line-xd-my-interior.html

Then I though maybe this: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/400931-fj80-subwoofer-amplifier-mounting.html

I have not seen anyone put subs in the tailgate though.

I wish Kevin did the side panels for the 80's, I am on the list for the tailgate, and have seen one first hand in an 80 they are awesome can't wait.

Yeah - it would be sweet to have the rear cargo are of the 80 fully used - it sucks to know that those quarter panels are just sitting there with all that space that could be used...

Does anyone have pics of an 80 with the trim in the rear removed?? curious what it looks like underneath all that... I've had some ideas on cutting the plastic to get better access.

On the passanger side there really isn't much. I have an amp installed where the OEM sub used to be. The only thing that really takes up space over there is the little cubby hole. I am not 100% sure about the drivers side.

So you have to pay up front and wait 8 or 9 months? Is this the norm?

Huh?:confused::confused:

Um, That's not how it went for me when I ordered mine. Just ping Kevin at WagonGear and he'll get you on the list. Once my name came up he contacted me.

You can either pay then and he'll make your panels to order (you can choose the latches, surface material, etc) or you can ask to be bumped to the back of the list again so that you can keep saving pennies.

Like Stiller said in Starsky & Hutch: "Just do it... Do it."

Install is straight forward. I used a reciprocating saw to cut the sheet metal as needed using wood blocks as spacers so that I wouldn't hack through the outer skin on the tailgate. Draw your lines - measure twice - go slow - breathe - piece of cake.
