Does the floor panel go under or over the sill skin?

Trying to make mine work right now and getting frustrated.

If i weld the sill skin on the vertical part, i get to much gap at the bottom.
If i weld it on top, then i need to squeeze some nuts back there and weld those in.

Any info will help!

this picture might help depending on year

to be honest its not my picture. but i did save them from a member of Mud. i have a few more but judging by the mounting hole locations this drawing isn't for your year. many things might be the same though

post pictures of your build problems please, they will help us help you.

check out the following photos from a Mud buddy of mine awl_TEQ you will see that the late model sills that he sells leave a lip to lap weld over

Don't know if these pics will help but worth a try. One piece sill and corner channels from CCOT.

Personally i wouldnt worry about copying the original design- imho it was horrific design anyway- one of toyotas major design blunders on par with the fj55 drain channels on the front quarter panels......

do it your own way and chances are it will be a huge improvement.

I agree. The original design is a mud catcher. Here's what I did--a 2.5 inch 3/16 walled tube with angle iron welded on the side for the floor to sit on:

77 sill replacement

Here is my 77 with the old sill removed. I'm dropping a new CCOT unit similar to Sea Knight.

Wow. had I done my research properly i would have got that awl-teq sill. Mine is a piece of 2x3 steel, beefy enough but i had to weld the bolts in. There is no indent for the door catch either....

I ended up welding the floor over the sill since it made the most sense.

You can also see where i added 1/4 flat bar instead of the captive nuts for the spare carrier. worked out great. The sill cover is made of 16 gauge as well, so pretty solid.
