I just changed out my gears from stock to 4.88s and put an aussie locker in the rear end. Everything was tight when put together about a week ago but when I get over 10 mph I feel a vibrating/shaking. Doesn't matter if I'm in gear or not. Everything is still tight. This is the only change I've done recently.
The night I drove it home I don't remember it feeling like that (but I was tired and after spending an hour getting one of the c-clips in again, after a friends "help" with turning the axle on me. . .)

My setup:
383 -> Stock tranny -> stock tcase -> SOA -> 4.88 gears -> 35" traxus mudders.

Oh I've only gotten it up to 45-50 mph since the gearing/locker and only driven it about 1-2 miles each of the three times I've driven it.

Thanks for the help!
Brian

Iv'e never done a regear before so my advice comes only from what Iv'e heard.
There's more to regearing than just slapping new gears in, the Gears have to be checked shimed and rechecked until you have proper contact with the gears from what i've been told it can cause catastrophic failure if not done correctly. As I understand it even proffessionals let professionals handle this task. The aussie locker however is user friendly and more than likely not your problem.
But if the gears are slightly off you may experience what you have going on, If it were me Id'e proceed with caution.
Good luck to you :beer:.

As long as you have good tools and double check your work there's no reason you can't do gears successfully. It's not really that hard, just time consuming getting all parts in spec. There are plenty of guides all over the internet that can be studied. I do wonder if there is something loose or setup improperly. The diff will run hotter if there is and definitely could ruin some parts. If you barely drive/drove it maybe the tires just need to round out again even though they're radials, so I second the tire problem. Ujoints would also be another check on my list to look at, so there's another vote for that too. Tell us what's been checked and eliminated.

Thanks for all the replies!
Sigh yeah its my drive shaft : (
I spent just over a grand in gears, kits, and locker. I made sure I installed the gears right : ) The painting was easier than I thought it would be : )

We put the rear end up on jack stands last night and it wasn't pretty : ( Idling in 2 high in first gear I could see the wobble in the drive line. The reason for all the changes right now was a snapped rear pinion. The drive line must have bounced hard enough to bend it : (

Ditto

Going through that right now as well, having a mechanic rebuild the third member though. praying the driveshaft is okay, I pogo-ed it a bit coming back down the rockface I was on but it appears straight. don't forget to phase it.

Hope yours is fine. I didn't even get that far with mine. I just heard the Ping against the rocks then the Smack against my truck.
