I got my bearing housing from comp4x4.com and the rest from the local farm supply store. the spindle is a 1" trailer axle and they will have a bearing kit right next to it. You can save a few bucks that way, or just have them send you the whole kit.
Fabricator Parts for Do It Yourself

I looked into this a while back, the one grant5127 gave is my preference, same price but something about bearings over bushings. But reality is it does not turn that much both will last.

I used the IPOR hinge Poser linked; works perfect.

I used an old front hub, axle stub, and locking hub. It's heavy duty and can be locked in the open position.

Do you have any pics of this? I would like to see how you did this. This looks like a good way to reuse old parts.

A Dude swung by to today and had this one somebody made from a front hub and spindle..........

Kind of bulky but really cool idea:cool:, especially with the locking Aisin hub....

That is SOOOOO rad!

I like that idea too with the locking hub.... ever have one go out on the trail? Hey, you have an extra one back there.

COOL.

If you use a bearing keep it well lubed and clean. My TJM rear carrier for my 80 had bearings. I didn't keep them clean and lubed well enough and they got dirty and corroded and seized. The race rusted to the shaft and I couldn't even get the carrier off the bumper (used air chisel, sledge hammer, and a high lift jack). One benefit of a bushing setup.

FWIW, I used the AtoZ fab spindle set up on my 62. It was a good deal, and worked REALLY WELL. I got another for my current 40 build!

BTW, in the pic posted...is that 2x4 steel?
I wanna do a swing out and just weld some 2x4 off the end of the frame, but Im concerned that I wont have enough clearance for the rear of the tub. My stock rear x member is trashed, so I need to replace it.

Sorry for the high jack
