My LX450 came with an aftermarket tow receiver that is way to low for off road use. (Anyone want it?). I see the 4 holes in the center of the bumper. Is there a tow receiver I can bolt on there?

Good thread; lots of passion around this topic. See post 34 for what I ultimately did. I have pulled a 6' x 12' U-Haul enclosed, tandem axle trailer very loaded several times with no issue. All Land Cruisers in the middle east come with pintle hitches from the factory.

Thank you. That's perfect. #34 looks ideal. Where did you buy the pintle hook? Is that better than something like this one? Amazon

I bought a Holland but I can't tell you where. It was something like $100. I wanted as close as I could get to the "NATO" look so I went with the 2" fixed ball. Let's face it, all you need is a 2" with an 80.

I drilled my bumper, btw and installed the plug connector. The connector has both 7 pin round and 5 pin vertical (I think that's correct anyway). Much cleaner look than wires dangling down. I think it was a Reece kit....would have to search to see what I installed. I remember it was plug and play though....except for drilling the hole with a hole saw (1" maybe?) and drilling and tapping for the 4 machine screws.

These options from Slee maybe interesting for you if you prefer 2" box. Slee - 2" Receivers

Trailerpartssupwrstore.com has about every variation of hitch available. I have a combo pintle 2" ball combo bolted onto my rig. It is bolted thru the rear cross member and my early Slee bumper, so 2 layers of support. I have had no problems pulling a variety of smaller trailers including a Hummer Military trailer @ 1500# with 2 tons of rock on it offroad, as in wheels in the air offroad, for trail repair for Forest Service. The pintle setup is a bit noisy when going on/off throttle. So I built a small spacer insert that holds the lunet closer to the hitch ball and still leaves just enough room that it never binds up. Much quieter now.
