I wish I had seen this thread before taking my truck in this AM! I guess I'll post up what my exhaust guy came up with...I wanted to keep the resonator so I took him the entire rear section (from muffler back) and asked him to modify it to come out the inner frame, keeping the resonator.

Post pictures when you get it back

The exhaust shop did a good job but it will be interesting to see if it can survive a straight ledge drop? A normal departure angle it will be fine but a straight Utah ledge drop could be an issue? He tacked on the hanger that I took him on the inside of the frame rail and routed the resonator along the inside instead of the outside. The resonator hangs ever so slightly below the frame rail. The last picture angle makes it look like it is way down but it is actually only about 1/2” below the bumper wing and frame.

This is what I ended up with. Two 45 deg bends and a simple bracket. 2.25"

I did the same as @tmxmotorsports . I built mine back in 2008 and it's still one of my favorite mods I did to the bumper. It really protects the exhaust tip while wheeling and is a clean solution even if you are not wheeling hard. If you're building a DIY labs bumper, now is the perfect time to cut the hole in the wing to allow an exhaust exit.

I have a bumper on order to weld myself...liking the @Shipwreck option for functionality and a clean installation. I have the LRA tank, so I'm limited on space under the rear end and this looks like a great option! I'd like to keep a resonator, but with my Falken Muds, I don't think that exhaust drone will be any louder than my chunky rubber (on the road at least).

I definitely like this install, but unfortunately I think I have to have the tailpipe stick out enough or have enough showing that the emissions place can attach the sniffer onto the pipe? When I move away from Commierado I will certainly consider this option.

I’m lucky in MD with 20+ year old historic, no emissions inspections required.

Eric, I wheeled Moab all last week. I never touched mine. One other 80 with stock exhaust crushed his tail pipe as well as a 100 series. By the time the tire drops off the ledge, the tail pipe is well out the way. Mine is a touch louder without the resonator but not enough to bother me. If I do crush it, I can easily replace it with less than $50 in parts. You will really enjoy the gained clearance of the bumper. I barley touched mine all week.

Edit with part # 10320 for mandrel bent 45 deg elbow. AP exhaust.

Good to know and definitely a simpler solution!

Yeah, I have no desire to beat this one up. It is set up. 4:88's, low range t-case gears, triple locked, added a 12k Warn winch and a few other things since that pic. I bought the rear bumper and sliders to protect it. It is a daily and display truck for my shop, but I wanted it to work as well if needed. I still have to install the roof rack for my Kayaks. Overall it is the basic 80 on 35's. Our club is heading to Moab next month and it will be mostly 80's, a 100, and a 40. We are not hitting Pritchett Canyon this trip!
You won’t want to do Pritchett on 35s 😜

Well, I did it in my 4runner on 36's.... But no, this 80 will not see Pritchett! One of my other rigs, YES :)

How long ago ?
I ran it last year was quite challenging even on 39s
The rating has been moved up from a 8 to 9 as the trail is harder then it used to be.
The 80 did make every obstacle with out wincing 😎 the only one out of a group of 6 all other riigs were built mini trucks.

Looking forward to seeing you again a SAS 😁
