Radiator Hose Shredded | 1988 FJ62

At the end of a road trip in pretty mild temperatures (around 60F) the radiator hose connected to the engine exploded sending coolant everywhere. Completely shocked because I checked the coolant levels before we left and I have a 4 year old radiator with additional cooling block attached.

Anyone experience this?

Would replacing the hose solve this? Or is this a larger issue?

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

in your first picture - that radiator cap looks bent. Was it damaged? It might not be regulating pressure like it should. Regardless, if I were you I'd be thinking about replacing all the hoses. Don't forget the one under the AC compressor. Toyota or Gates, don't cheap out.
 
Probably a combination of a Thermostat not opening and a faulty radiator cap.
 
The only time I've seen that on a 60 it was overheating and the cap failed to get rid of the excess pressure into the overflow bottle, so pressure kept building. I think the guy had completely removed his thermostat as well, in an effort to alleviate a constant high-temp issue. It was the lower radiator hose and it exploded just like that. That was somebody else's truck on a trail and fortunately one of us had a spare hose to get the guy rolling again pretty quick.

Time for a cooling system refresh. Replace all hoses (Toyota or Gates, there's a thread on here with a list of part numbers), get a new cap, use only the Toyota clamps (available new), and maybe replace the thermostat and o-ring if you don't know when they were last changed. May as well flush the system from the radiator and engine block while you're at it.
 
what is an additional cooling block?
were the temps in normal range before this happened?
were the hoses changed when the rad was done 4 years ago?
