R151F: What a Mess

Think of each gear tooth as a lever arm. It's a specific distance from the center of the gear. Larger diameter gears have longer 'lever arms'.

Did Pappy get the engine to run right?

Haven't even tried. When I parked it to pull the tranny it was still unhappy. Lyman bantered around some ideas. He ruled out vacuum leak. He thinks there is a sensor issue, though all the sensors were replaced, and no codes. It could be harness.

When I was at the boneyard I found a 1986 efi truck. Even though the harness is different, they are similar enough, so I pulled it to play with. I want to tear into it and look for splices that could be bad in mine.

Don't know if you've got rivet nuts on the way or not, but I just placed an order for a bunch of M6 and M8 rivet nuts from McMaster-Carr if you need to take back the ones you let me "borrow."

Should be there next week. (I probably won't be, but that's another story--at least not until November sometime)

No worries Dan. I have them on the way.

Took the truck for a putt yesterday. Engine still runs like poop. Tranny and tc seem to be OK. The new clutch is fantastic. There was a little vibration starting off the line. Might be driveline vibration since I changed the angle at the diff when I moved the output flange back. Ran fine on the freeway.

Skid Plate and Crossmember

The new BudBuilt dual-case cross-member and skid plate pretty in primer.

Nice! That Runner is turning into a hard-core wheeler.

Bottom side was sprayed with rattle can bed liner. Top side (TC side) is just black engine enamel.

Do you think that the clutch was contaminated?

I don't think so. I'm familiar with clutch chatter, which is what it was doing before the surgery. I still think it's driveline. I had forgotten how nice a new clutch feels. There was an aftermarket Beck Arnley inside before. It still went over 200K miles and while it was clearly worn, it still had life. Of course I put in an OEM AISIN.

New cross-member on. New spring mounts ordered. As soon as they are in I'll cut off the factory mounts and tip up the pinion.
