At the shop and have the doors, but not the cruiser. Could someone quickly let me know the height from the bottom of the front door (flat part, not curved corner), to the lip of the body where the hard top sits.

I'm making some doors that look like this, and want the door and the lip to be the same height.

Thanks!

I measure 17 and 3/4 inches from the bottom of the door to the bottom of the depression at the top of the tub....the measurement from the bottom of the door to the top of the tub where the bow goes in the big hole is 19 inches even....
Hope that helps...

FYI......I was at CCOT the other day and those doors are light weight. They sounded like tin cans when I closed the door and they are not the same quality as the doors you already have. I would cut down a set of doors before I bought those very expensive ones from CCOT. I think they are like $1300 a set or something crazy like that.

Yea, I'm using factory doors from a 78 cruiser. I appreciate the help, got the first one cut.

I'll post some pics once they're done.

bphillips,
I am wanting to do the same thing. Remember what you are doing so you can tell how to do mine.

Ok, 6 hours in the garage, with some help from my dad, a torch, welder and grinder and have something to show for it.

One door is about 80% done, need to finish up welding. But I'm happy with the way they're turning out.

Its looking good. I have a set of doors I will be using later in my restore. I saw one post where they cut the outside longer, enough to fold over and weld to other side. Made sense but after thinking about it, I am sure the guage steel you use for the top is stronger giving it added support. Any thoughts appreciated.

What are you going to do about the interior of the door?

What are you going to do about the interior of the door?

We're toying with two methods:

1.) Pick up some sheet metal and weld it on, keeping a clean, painted metal surface similar to the link above.

2.) Get a thin peace of ply wood, cover it in rhino lining and then have someone put neophrene wet suit material over it. Figure out a way to attach it so it's clean.

Anyone try the second method? I think that would be really cool.

I like the fist method but what you need to think about in our area is how hot that bare metal is going to get in the summer. If your leg rest against that then whooooweeeee. I would still do method #1 but rhino line it.

It also gets very humid....I'd stay as far away from wood as I could get....
Make it where you won't have to worry about it....With wood, you'll always wonder if its going to rot/hold moisture/break/whatever.....Not sure how you're going to get away from the hot metal issue......Heck, you wont have to worry about it anyway....one hand on the wheel and the other on the gears....

You could do fiberglass.

Using factory inside panels would look real good....:cheers:

I've seen pics of the factory inside panels and to me they just don't look right. You could get the hard plastic panels from CCOT so when you have to cut them they may look OK.

Both doors cut. Need to find a new home for the inside door handle and release.

Pic of my dad's bikes which he hand built. The red one was built 27 years ago, and the green one was finished in the same garage last year.

How much would it take to convince you and your dad to help me with some? How about some BBQ?

I would be looking at diamond tread aluminum or plain metal covered with diamond tread rubber.

Bedliner would be pretty rough on bare legs.

Heavy gauge 1/16 plastic cut to shape. Look at CCOT for the idea. Pretty awesome. Those doors look great. Or go with aluminum ala Chandler. That's very tight, my man.
