Anyone running these hinges? Any feedback? Better options?

QUIK Hinges

I think, MC Designs is 69LC. I know there's a big thread on these. Maybe a search is in order

Ah thanks, I didn't realize there was a difference. I will track that down.

Love mine; I usually take my hard top off every spring and put it back on every fall. The quik hinges make changing out the hard doors for tube doors a snap. Quality product from a stand-up guy.

Great timing on this thread. I bought a set about a year ago to put on a resto I’m doing, and I’m finally ready to bolt them in so... What’s the best solution for sealant around them once installed?

Really great quality and you can change out from hard doors to tube doors in under a minute. If your tube doors are Metal Tech you are going to have to change out the striker plates as the latches are reversed. That takes longer than the change. Buy the Super Set so you can go from one to the other. I mounted on the two sets of doors as my rig is Kevlar Speedlined on the exterior.

I just used silicone RTV, but you could use polyurethane caulk if you were going to paint over it.

Thanks for the tip on the latch.

Did you have a problem w/ the upper hinge on the MT tube doors? I'm going to have to notch that hinge b/c it hits the tube.

I do like the product - but the hinges would be MUCH easier to install if a little thinner metal. The factory bolts barely "grab" to get started b/c of the combo of the thickness and they don't fit thru the opening very well. Especially on the upper/outer bolt of the top hinge it's really tricky - longer bolts not really an option here either as the space is very tight. There is also a very small gap to try and squeeze seam sealer around the front of the hinge between the body lip. A tiny bit thinner would help and not compromise the strength - they are way beefier then need be as-is!

We notched the endcap and sprayed the doors with Rhino. Haven't had an issue but they laid on the liner thick there.

Yes. I did. :)

My MetalTech tube doors went right on with no problem at all. I wonder if the difference is in how you adjust the hinges when you install them.

Unless you wanted the hinge at an angle v/s straight up/down (which it should be!) there is material that needs to be removed for the Metal Tech tube doors - at least the doors I received Wednesday. Not really either party's fault. MT designed the doors for stock hinges and the QuickHinges are designed for stock doors. Could also be manufacturing variances or quality control issues on either side - I know there were on my doors so it's possible they were to blame. Regardless - easy fix. Dry fit before painting would be my advice (which I didn't do).

Mine are in storage right now so I can't take a photo of them, but they dropped right on with Quik Hinges and no modification. Bought mine several years ago, so yeah maybe manufacturing variance.

I thought I would chime in on this one too. @69LC has a great product. Here is a solution I created for some members regarding the seal. I made two versions. The first version will fit your unmodified hinges, the second version requires cutting them back as shown in the picture below for what I think would be an even cleaner look.

I created the parts out of TPU, a flexible material and designed it to fit the the exact contours our FJ40s. I test fitted them on my 82', on @SMG 's FJ40, and on a Gozzard tub. There is a grid pattern on the backside and a draft angle designed into the part to allow for the application of an adhesive sealant. The material is flexible enough to stretch over the hinge pivot. It is more rigid than rubber but exhibits some of the same characteristics. Although is it designed to fit tight around the part, the true "sealing" comes from application of a sealant / adhesive behind the part. The part is more for aesthetics than anything else.

I am currently sold out, however, I could run another batch if others are interested.

I haven’t changed the hinge design since I started producing them. It’s always small batches on the same fixtures.

Sorry Matthew, I should have been more specific - I was thinking of manufacturing variations in the MetalTech tube doors as a way to possibly explain the difference.
