Hey cruiser bros. Adding another rust thread on here. I have his quarter panel I’m needing to knock out just makes the car look ugly and it seems very cancerous. How the hell would I go about fixing the panel fraying from the inner wheel tub like this? Any ideas on cruiser outfitters quarter panel and if that would work? Just wanting someone else who has done the job that can chime in. I’ve seen some rear QP repairs but none that were this rotted. The panels are really weak and feel like floppy paper. Truck used to be red but someone painted it grey in its lifetime with this bed lining around the bottom. Bed lining is all stripping off as you can see on the doors and that dogleg? I think it’s called. On the door fraying with my hand in pic.

also side question anyone got any leads of fj60 part outs? Been wanting to see if someone will cut the segment for me so not as much welding is necessary. Will be Attending YouTube university for some TIG classes in the meantime.

If anyone can find me a good parts rig or a source for these panels too I will give you a fat virtual smooch.
Thanks again! This forum has saved my life in the short time I’ve been here, this 3000 dollar cruiser is definitely showing its age and price point

Death by bedliner, I see. Your inner fender has also been cut/shortened/rusted off. You almost need to see an un-rusted example to see what's missing on yours. You might have to buy a big chunk of fender from a place like Cruiseryard: Cutting of Custom Sheetmetal - https://www.cruiseryard.com/cutting-of-custom-sheetmetal/

Given the tailgate peeling apart and the sheer volume of rust, you might consider getting a different rig and parting this one out. To remove all the bedliner and replace all the metal may be a staggering effort. Or, grease up what's there to save what's left and just drive it as a floppy-paneled beater truck.

Sorry. It’s bad.

Parts truck is the way to go, see if you can find one that has been crashed, cut the whole rear quarter out, and replace on yours. I have seen guys do it before, it’s amazing what people have taken back from the tin worm.

Every 60 is worth saving in my opinion, but this might be the case of just fluid filming, and driving it hard for the next 10 years. :grinpimp:

Thank you for the link! I’ll probably pick up a chunk of Land Cruiser from these guys didn’t know they offered this pretty cool. My plan is to drive it daily right now and fix as I go. Work at a shop so I think I might be able to handle it with some Tetanus shots and a lot of questionable financial decisions.

Thank you! Gives me hope. It’s a big project but im hoping for the low price I got it for in about 5000 and a lot of busted knuckles it should be at a place I’m comfortable with, not perfect but also not rotting away. Really want to bring this old lady back to life.

No matter what you do, this is going to require a ton of welding.

Do you have a welder? Angle grinder? That’s pretty much all you need. I wouldn’t waste your time with TIG. MIG and hardwire is the way to go.

Yup got a welder I can use at the shop and tons of angle grinders. my co Workers got a much nicer fj60 he’s LS swapping. Currently sitting in shop due to wiring nightmares. Gonna make a lot of stencils while it’s sitting there so I can start cutting and making some progress. Did some more research on the MIG and hardwire and I think I’ll take your advice on that, looks a lot easier and cheaper time to start reading up and practicing!

I’ve been there.

I bought the above rig as a "parts" rig, but in the end I decided to repair it. I had no previous welding or metalworking experience, but thanks to YouTube I felt emboldened enough to give it a go. I had to rebuild inner and outer quarters, inner and outer rockers, wheel wells, floor panels, cross members, etc. It took 2 years but today the truck is my daily driver. Feel free to check out the FJ62 link in my signature if you want to follow the saga.

I made all my own panels, but aftermarket panels are available [edit: SOME panels are available. You will definitely need to fabricate many of your own panels]. I believe CCOT has panels for the 60 series, as well as Wolf Steel

Good luck and have fun!
