I have an '81 hj47 that some previous owner used a rubber expansion plug on the back of the head on....and guess what? It recently let go. There isn't enough room between the head and the firewall to slide a plug in and seat it. My options are either pull the head and replace the plug or pull the driveshafts, radiator, shifters, and motor mounts and slide the whole thing forward enough to put the plug in. I need to replace one of the front motor mounts anyways, so there are only two others....

what says the forum?

it's tied up....a few more votes and I'll do which one is the most popular...

8-4 any more votes?

drive it like you stole it :) if you want some help let me know. I would slide it forward enough to put the plug in. that way you dont have to pull the intake and exhaust and have to put new head gasket on and adjust the valves.

May be a dumb question., is there enough room to pull the heater and use a knockout to put a hole in the firewall and install it from the inside? Used to do some V8 freeze plugs that way.

maybe, but I'd rather try sliding it forward or pull the head. The firewall is in good shape and I'd like to keep it that way. I like the way you think...

I was also thinking of getting size 2 nude girl...maybe she has small enough hands to get the plug in there. As my dad told me...don't marry a girl with big hands, it's embarrassing when she holds your junk.

let me know when you get the size 2. I will bring the chairs and drinks to help watch.

I would put a hole in the firewall and plug it before I would do any of the options you list.

I have done just that on my 40.

Cover plate sits behind where the heater goes anyways!:hillbilly:

Best

hmmm....maybe I'll give the access hole another thought...

If Mark can do it, why can't I? :grinpimp:
