I am in. I will be trying to get the authorities to accept bigger tires (37") on my 80 - and I know brakes are one of the obstetricals I would have to get around.

something like this please........ j/k - sort of....

perhaps a modified version of the Tundra brakes like I did of my 4runner ? they did require 17's tho...... that I think it the limiting factor.

any word from the Original Poster ?

Interested too.

Definitely interested. I put a set of Baer brakes on a mustang that I road raced, and they were very impressive.

NLXTACY, you had my dream car...RS4.

It was more of a nightmare. It was plagued with issues. It was a total bat outta hell...when I could drive it. But 5 months at the dealer total, off and on, and I finally had enough. It stopped being fun. I likely had a lemon but on paper, it should have blown my mind.

If going the BBK route, the best way is to have these items

1. 2 piece rotor (brake disc to be replaceable with over the counter 2pc rotors)
2. able to use Toyota Factory calipers if upgrading (maybe tundra or later model 4runner) to allow a simple selction of pads
3. bracket to relocate the caliper to accommodate the rotor.

So basically we are talking about something similar to the AEM brake kits for the Hondas of the 90's.

My Pops is the sales manager for Wilwood brakes. I can bring this thread to his attention and see if he has any ideas. any interest in that or do you want to keep barking up Baer tree?

Coming from two high power German sedans to a '97 TLC is definitely scary. It seems like it doesn't want so stop and all brake pads and discs are new.

Here is my take on it after looking into it quite a bit...

Do not rely on the brake manufactures they will tack a large premium on a labeled BBK.

The important thing is to decide on a rotor size.

The current front rotors are between 310-312mm x 32mm depending on brand. The rears are a little larger but you aren't going to do anything with the rears as they are a one piece with a built in e-brake.

SO you could very easily find any rotor you want in the 328mm-380mm x 32 range the 328mm might fit under a stock wheel but anything larger would require an aftermarket wheel.

Just find the rotor and have someone make the spacer pretty easy to make a 30mm spacer for the caliper and on the GT-R boards we even found someone to make the hats to fit Corvette ZR1 carbon ceramic discs since the BBK for the GT-R's are $11-19k

Alcon makes a 340x32 two piece rotor
Endless makes 332-355x32 two piece rotor
Stoptech makes 332,355,380x32 two piece rotors
etc.

I'm currently working on this.
I recently purchased some new, old stock 14" rotors and split the front stock rotors and in the process of machining them into a hat.
I will stick with the stock calipers for now using a bracket/spacer
My math shows about ~20% braking improvement with increased rotor size.
Been busy with life, but hopefully finish over the holidays.

any information would be a huge help, whether doing a diy kit or purchasing something off-the-shelf.
I would be interested in recommended caliper upgrades with 14" rotors and 18" wheels.
