What is the function of that 2nd small lite on the fender? Never noticed it before... good eye @scoobiedubes!

...update. I just noticed another difference. The ribs on the lower rear fender are different. There is a long rib that extends forward of the gas filler over the rear wheel well lip. Interesting. Most of the LVs don’t have that rib.

The rear fender is flat also, not flared out like 45 LVs.

Both original FJ35V pic show the same flat rear fenders and the extended top rib on the rear quarter. The FJ35V at the 1960 Toyota Motor Show has the same front fender lights as this early 45V.

Edit: I went out and looked at my LV and realized that when they flared out the 45V fenders they also flared out the bottom portion of the rear door as well. The 35V also has flat rear doors.

Everything takes a little longer than you think it's going to. I went out this morning thinking I was gonna work on the front bumper and cut some glass and ended up spending the whole day on the bumper. At least it's done and off to the painter this week. I straightened the slight heat warp on the ends with a cut off wheel on the inside and filler on the outside. I ground some of the inside welds earlier and taped and tooled filler to hide them today.

Ouch! What a beauty! Tons of work since then but it's always been a good thing keeping one of these wagons from the scrapyard. Looking at the old pics always kicks my application up a notch for all of those involved in this build from day one. I tried to match that pic but can't get back far enough...

We should all be proud to see this this LV come back to life! Its definitely inspiring. Not sure if I will ever get as far as Gene has. He certainly deserves all the credit for this. Especially after what he has been through With the original LV.

Well thank you but actually I would have never built this LV if it weren't for first Georg Esterer and second Eric C. Getting me into another LV was Georg's idea and Eric was quick to donate this rig. I may have spent a lot more time, planning and money on it but you can't forget guys like Mark Algazy who started this thread and organized the Burbank build and the almost 20 guys that came to help. Before that there were who knows how many guys that I have still never met that donated funds for this LV. I've said it before but even during the hard times I couldn't even think of abandoning this build and wanted it to be something special. My very slight obsession with the FJ35V just kind of helped that along. I'm glad to read you guys are proud to see it come back to life. Sorry to keep you all waiting so long.

I've still got some cool things planned for the inside.

I worked on it all day today and got a lot done. This is definitely the fun part of the build. Sunny weather, listening to music in the garage while tipping some cold ones and working on Land Cruisers. Good times.

Ken,

The cargo barrier as well as the window bars was an option only until September 1965.

A cargo barrier can be seen in one of the early 40s on display at Specter OffRoad.

It may have been only intended for domestic use in Japan.

A similar item was an early option on the early 45 pickup trucks.

Yes both the FJ35 pics have it but the best pic is on the early 45V on the previous page of this thread (39). It wraps around the front edge of the rear cargo glass nicely and bends around the back of the rear seat. I would have reproduced it too if I were gonna use the rear seat in my LV but now that the kids are grown I'm leaving the rear seat in the garage. I'm going with a full length flat floor from the tailgate to the back of the front seat so I can sleep back there when camping in the desert. I've gotten real spoiled doing this in my 60.

Waiting on window vinyl before I cut the glass so I'm on to the next project. This should be a lot of fun to restore.
