Mcgyver24

Read your whole post last night, you are doing a great job. Presently also putting a 700r behind a sbc in my 1975. If I missed it forgive me, are you planning on leaving the rear axle in the stock postion? If so would like see the specs on your rear drive shaft. Length and angle
Thanks for sharing your build.

@Kjohnson, My rear axle is not in it’s stock position, it’s pointing straight up at the transfer case. I currently have a company local to me making me a drive shaft. I was originally going to use a front FJ60 drive shaft with a CV and have them shorten it to the length I needed. Because my drive shaft was so short (16 3/8”) the FJ60 CV was going to be to long and wasn’t going to allow enough room for everything to fit. They sense then ordered me a CV off a Chevy ½ ton and are combining it with my factory drive shaft. This CV is supposed to be stronger, you can rebuild it and has more flex then the FJ60. I’m still waiting for it to be completed and will post more information once it’s completed, good luck with your build and let me know if you have any other questions.

Day 165a

I started on my gauges, my plan is to replace each gauge with an electric one that will work with my current application. The first one I tackled was a GM fuel gauge. OldàNewàCompleted

Day 165b

Next I installed some custom hydraulic power steering hoses. One to the pump and the other to a cooler and then back to the pump.

So you rotated the axle up to be more inline with the output of the transfer. Have you also moved the axle to the rear to make use of a longer drive shaft. Would like to see pics if you have any.

@Kjohnson, yes I rotated the axle to be pointed directly to the transfer case. I also moved the axle back 1 inch. I will take a few pictures of my setup once I install my drive shaft. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Day 166

I installed all the engine bay heater lines and fabricated a rear heater mount. I need relocated the rear heater back and up a few inches due to my seat frame. I also decided to center it as well, not sure why it wasn’t centered to begin with.

What I like about your build is the dust free environment you seem to be working in, keeps things looking nice and tidy.
I apparently work in a dust tornado.

Days 167 - 168

I routed the heater hoses to and from the engine to the heater cores.

Day 169 - 70

I plastic dipped the hood latch and support rod so they won’t scratch the paint. Next I made the rear heater hard lines, due to the lack of space these were needed to make the heater functional.

What product did you use to dip the hood latch and prop rod?

Wow. It's hard to wrap my head around the time, skill, knowledge and money needed to do this. Fantastic.

Sorry if you mentioned this earlier, but what transfer case are using? Is it stock?

Your 40 is looking great! Amazing work and attention to details!

I have a question on the power steering hoses pictured in post #305. I've have a difficult to impossible time finding hose fitting at my local hydraulic shop with that tight of a 90 degree bend. Are the hose ends AN fittings?

Also, it looks like you are using an adapter at the steering box. Is the steering box a flare type or metric o-ring type fitting?

Would also like to know where you sourced the fittings especially if this is an o-ring style box.

Thanks!

@miker, I believe these fitting are AN fittings to some type with an o-ring style. I really don’t know exactly because I just took my old hoses to a hydraulic shop and told them what I wanted. They had to order in the parts but everything worked out, not cheap ($100 for the pair). I have attached the link below of the shop, Joey over there new what and where to order those fittings. Hope this helps.

Days 171 - 172

I installed the HID ballasts for the head lights as high as possible using all existing mounting holes. Then I plumbed the rear heater, next the wiring madness begins.

Mcgyver24,

Blown away by the job you're doing. I had a few questions for you. #1 where did you get your screws/bolts for your build? #2 I love your front bumper...what are the chances you'd part with your plan? I don't have the skill, space or equipment to build this myself, but I'd love to see how much a metal fab shop up here would charge to build it....also, what is the purpose of that square hole in the center? Thanks!

Thanks Mcgyver, I did a search online and found them available from speedway:
