Keeping it in terms we both understand -- you've earned the combo plate plus a bowl of Brunswick Stew and a side of fried okra!

Now about that Chess Pie:

What year is your donor 80? IIRC the axle width is a little different from the FJ80 to the FZJ80. I'd like to know what year truck the axles came from to know the width measurement.

Lastly, the specific measurements of the rims you have on there now. Can you confirm the year & model of the truck the rims came from (4Runner?), or measure them?

Knowing the exact rim width and the exact backspacing measurement will really help out in a big way on a couple decisions. I'm not in a position to collect several rim options and try them to see what might work for what I want; I really need to get specifics from someone else as the wheel/axle fitment issue will help determine what direction to go with donor parts.

Then we'll just have to work on a payment arrangement.

Of course I'll be paying attention all the way through your build with interest.

Thanks again - much, much appreciated.

How about a couple beers to wash down the combo plate...their brunswick stew isn't very good and I'm not a fan of fried okra.

Ok onto that desert. The rims are from a 3rd generation 4runner. They are 16"x7" with a backspacing of 4.5" I'm not much on desert though can...we make it a couple more beers :)

I guessing your working on a similar project?
I'll send you pm about it.

Matt

Looks good swamp... I like that you are leading the way. Much like 4XLT, specifics on the rims would also help me. I'm buying some 9.00x16 tires that say should be mounted on 6.5" rims, so I'm thinking some 16" 7" wide rims off a Tacoma, Tundra, FJ cruiser, etc. would be nice. The tires are narrow at 9.5" section width, so I am hoping this helps with keeping them under the sheet metal. Backspacing I know is important as well.

Agreed on the substitution. The rims I most likely will use are from a limited 4runner. They are the same dimension and back spacing but they are the 5 spoke design. I think those will look more like the 7x gx alloys.

The donor 80 is a 97. I really wish it was a pre 96. That way down the road if emissions every come to my state I won't have to worry about it b/c its pre- OBDII. But the price was right on this 97 and it only took 10 minutes to get it home.

The progress has come to a screeching halt b/c the apapters for the cummins are out of stock. I was told a lot of tall tales by the guys at Phoenix Castings. I've finally gotten to the bottom of their BS. Long story short...adapters won't be ready till April.

How's the project coming? Need some more progress here. I'm following your build trying to decide to use my 95 hzj75 to put my 79 body on, switch to a hdj81.

Sorry for the lack of updates....but there has really been no progress to report. I was out of the country for a month and since I've been back its been work and more work. Plus I still don't have the adapters I need. Hopefully I get a few hours here and there to work on it this summer but I have a seasonal business so free time is very limited in the summer for me.

Tough call on the 75 or 81. I chose the 80 b/c I had it sitting there and I wanted coils and 80 axles. The 75 will be far easier...plus if you only have the 79 shell like I did you need all the interior from the 75 anyway.

Duke...what ever happened to that feed I was suppose to get from you :) Just kiddin...I ate their the other night for the first time in a while...they raised the prices and lowered the quality...not a good business plan...I won't be eatin there any more.

I'm currently building myself a new pig cooker....maybe I'll post a pic of it when I'm finished. Too many projects not enough time.

Hey I'm in! There's just this little logistical issue of about 1000 miles.

We'll figure it out. Hopefully it won't be too long but the debt stands.

You developing your own pig capabilities makes it more interesting.

Yeah the distance is a problem especially with fuel at $4 a gallon. Don't worry about the feed I was just joking and I never expected anything...just trying to help you out.

I'm a bbq snob...I've been cooking pigs for a while and my old cooker have up the ghost. Building a new one b/c I have a few gigs doing it for money this summer. I might be going a little over board...the tank I'm using for the cooker snapped a spring and bowed the axle on the trailer I'm using. Should have know it weighed a lot when the tractor struggled to lift it.

TTT. :D

Hi bro I'm a noob. That's a sweet truck you're building. I really like all the attention to detail. I have a 85 Toyota pickup that I want to do the same diesel swap you're doing. When your talking about the r151 do you mean the one from a fj or one from a Toyota pickup? Sorry for the dumb question just that I've been doing a lot of research on this swap and I read some where that the r150 from a fj has a bigger output bearing or shaft then the one from the pickup. So that the.one from a pickup won't work. is that true? Would I be able to use the one from a pickup or do I need the.one from a fj.

Hey bro sorry for the dumb questions. It's just that I've always wanted to do this swap but I just want to get all the right info first. And this is one of the places to get all great info. Your build and one other from here a guy putting a cummins b3.3 in a fj45 made me sign up. There was a link to your build on the fj45 build and I've read both. This is exactly what I want to do to my 85 4x4 Toyota pickup. Hey bro I was reading another build somewhere else and the guy was having Clarence problems with the turbo so he fliptt it to make it work but he said you have to do something else to it I don't remember what. If you want ill try and find it and put the link up hear if its ok with you? Just trying to help. Sorry If you already know what I'm talking about. And again sorry for the dumb questions.

Sorry guys been completely swamped at work. 14-16 hr days for the summer months. Then end is near though...few more weeks and I'll have time again to work on the truck. I have most of the parts I need so hopefully there will be some decent progress. Would love to be driving the truck by the end of the year.

85toyota...As far as the tranny goes...its not one from a mini truck. You have to use one from a cruiser(which is very rare in the states) or I believe you can use one from a taco but I don't have one laying around to confirm this. You have to have a 7.5 inch input shaft and then you have to get a bellhousing from an ax15 dodge tranny.
by all means post up the link of the turbo flip. I'm not sure I'm gonna go that route. The engine really needs to sit lower in the frame anyway for proper trans clearance on the firewall.

Thank-you for the info and sorry again for the dumb questions. Do I have to get a bellhousing from a ax15 dodge even if I get an adapter from phoenix castings and get an adapter from advanced adapters? Or can I do the swap with out either one of those and just use the bellhousing? I'll look up where I saw them flip the turbo and ill let you know. I'm not one of those people that wants the answers given to him. I've done a lot of reading I would just like to get good advice from someone with hood experience. Do you think the engine would do good in my 85 Toyota pickup?

What year trans from a cruiser would be good to use and would I have to use the cruiser transfer case also or would I be able to use one from a pickup? If its ok can u give me some advise please. I'm defenetly going to put the b3.3 into my pickup what would u suggest I use for adapters , trans and t-case? So I can have an idea of what to research. Im not afraid of reserch. The reason I ask you is cause your build look sweet and you are really detailed. Thanks again bro. Any suggestions would really be appreciated thanks.

if your putting it in a minitruck I would suggest using a trans from a taco...the r150. You should be able to bolt a late 90's dakota bellhousing to it. That will give you the right input shaft length. Then you will have to get another adapter to use an mini truck tcase with the taco trans. For the engine adapter call phoniex casting and talk with them. they are the ones that make the adpaters and can point you in the right direction.
You will mostly likely need a lift on the truck to have ample clearnace between the oil pan and axle.

Thanks a lot bro for the info and advise. How do you think the b3.3 will do in my mini truck do you think its a good combo? Hows your build coming along? I've been hopping to see some updates. I really want to see it all finished. Hope everything goes good with your build.
