@freedap i just started using a diode in my alt-s but have no feedback it did boost my voltage up to 14.2 volts. We will see the long term affects on the alternator.

@iptman AGM’s need 14.6 volts to fully charge. 13.6v will only partially charge them.

Just for grins I tested the charge voltage on my 80. This is with the hand throttle set at 2500 RPM.

Using the Scangauge: driving voltage is between 13.6 and 13.8(Rpm 2200-2800)
Initial start up 14.1v after 5mins or so it settles down to mid 13s

Are you using a 1amp diode on Alt-s?

First pic: RPM 2500 14.18v

What is everyone using to clean engine parts? This timing cover and oil pump have 36 years worth of caked up doo doo on the front…… what is a good process to get these things cleaned up some before reinstalling? For the gasket surface I’m ok…. Just scraping gaskets and maybe some brake cleaner to handle residue. They are actually in great shape. The cover and pump are just disgusting on the outside. I also need to clean up the intake manifold but that’s not as bad as the oil pump and timing cover. Thanks for and tricks you can pass on !

I have seen that on multiple toyota parts where they use fipg. Maybe a place for any extra to go?
I thought the timing cover only called for FIPG in the top corners and oil pan. The oil pan definitely has big groves for it. You are probably right though. It terminates into the oil pan overhang. Weird.

I'm jealous...I almost bought a G8 GXP with the 6 speed manual back in the day but the owner wanted too much. I've always been a sucker for 4 door V8 manuals
Yeah, it's a great car and my wife loves it. I actually flew into Detroit and drove it back from Ohio when I bought it. Was a long day.

Now that this scratch needs to get repaired, I'll probably do that and have the whole vehicle ceramic coated all at once.

I sold my '03 Audi RS6 V8 twin turbo with a 6 speed conversion (that I installed) for my cruiser...it was a blast to drive, 600 hp scary fast, and I miss it. That said, I think my 80 has a forever home in my single bay garage!

But back to cruiser content....I installed my HuricanFab tailgate storage door...I love it!

I know that it's best to keep things like recover gear at arm's length when on the trial, but nice to be able to keep it stowed on board at all times just in case!
