It had ATF in it but I guess I'll be replacing it. Thanks for the replyNo, My damage was very minor and sounded like a bad lifter, but only had a couple damaged teeth(barely). That sounds like a ps pump without fluid! It sounds bad!

I am running atf. Pull the pump and start the truck back up. See if it still makes noise. Very simple to do and is guaranteed to verify if its your pump or something elseIt had ATF in it but I guess I'll be replacing it. Thanks for the reply

I’ll answer my own question for future guys... I did drive up to Payson from Scottsdale and it did a lot better have the head was serviced by the machine shop. I replaced the gear and the noise is gone. I probably drove more than 500 miles before I could replace the chipped gear. So In my case I was able to drive with the chipped gear with no issues while it was in and after I replaced it.this is my issue. i put the motor back in after doing the cylinder head and it was running incredibly quiet. then i realized i hadn't put power steering fluid in, so it was running dry. as soon as i put the fluid in the load ticking started. there was a small chip in the power steering gear.
my question is am i doing any damage driving the truck until i can replace the gear? which i hope to do in a week and possibly after a trip up to payson so less than 500 miles during the 2 weeks.
