Hey everyone,
I'm installing an ironman 4x4 lift kit on my project 45 and I have new power steering plate I want to weld into place. As you can see I'm running into a fitment issue. My question is do I cut back the power steering plate or do I modify the shackle? I'm leaning towards the PS plate, but I'd like to have some input from you guys.
thanx
Craig

Will your box clear the shackle if you modify the power steering plate? My vote would be to modify the shackles.
I'm sure that it would. If I modify the shackle it'll be a rectangular one similar to stock I'm thinking. I just worry about weakening the shackle if I cut it up.

I like it more horizontal for the PS box , it look tilted forward on the pic, maybe you can turn the plate counterclockwise and it will clear the shackles
The plate really only goes the way it's oriented in the picture except that it's supposed to sit lower, but can't because of the shackle.

Considering that the top of the PS plate is supposed to serve as a rough guide for placement EVEN WITH THE TOP OF THE FRAME, those shackles are just non-starters, period. Make them go away.

Mark, the shackles are part of the lift kit. I know I don't have to use the ones that came with the kit. Do you have some that you could recommend? I have a nice pair of Downey shackles on my other 45, but I'm pretty certain those are no longer available?

The kit is a 2" lift from stock.

To quote my favorite gunsmith and the guy I Elsie from "If you have a torch and hammer it has to fit" Cardboard Aided Design is a wonderful tool in your bag of tricks.

Your kit was intended for Stock Shackles, not the anti-inversion units. Also with no weight on the rig, it’s heard to judge the actual clearance. As you load the rig, spring compresses….shackle rotates forward. Also if you’re planning on the steering shaft through the front cross member, you can get the nose of the Saginaw box up into the cross member, gives you another inch or so clearance.

As shown, mine was a different style bracket (from TPI). However, we still had to round the top of the stock shackle….plus we positioned the box as deep into the cross member as possible.

I will try and snap a pic of my Double Duty shackles with the Saginaw later.
