Does anybody know what thread size the lines are that go into the Steering box on a 83 FJ60? Going to do some braided lines and wanted to see if they had the correct fitting for my box. Thanks

I don't know the thread pitch etc...for those two fittings but I know there are a couple of threads that list the part number and source for fittings to use for the purpose you describe. If I find the thread I'll post the link..assume you used the search function?

I haven't seen the necessary metric fittings in the Earl's or aeroquip catalog.

PSC sells these adapters to go from JIS to SAE standard, then it's easy to fab custom hoses.
16mm pressure adapter

and

17mm return adapter

Just a follow-up, I received these fittings from PSC and they do thread in properly. Not that I had any doubt, but I thought that I'd confirm it. They are nice in that they are made low profile. The only downside to that is that it is hard to use a wrench on them and the height of the wrench flats is short. A socket used with care is advised.

I love the people that maintain that Toyota never used a 17mm thread size :D

"You MUST be talking about the bolt head size!!!"

For the return line you can use the low pressure factory fitting that can be re-used with new tube, eh?

The M16 seems to be the relatively easy one to find. It's the M17 (NOT the hex size!) that is the rare bird. I still find it astoundingly stupid that Toyota did that, but it's done.

With the price of shipping these days I'll also recommend Orme Bros. to those in the S-W for AN fittings. Their customer service is outstanding and their knowledge and inventory are excellent as well. I don't mind paying a bit more to keep businesses like that in business, because I know that someday I'm going to need them.

Phone: 661-568-9170 They were closed for the Holidays so I called PSC.

If you use PSC (Performance Steering Components or pscmotorsports.com), the fittings are as follows:
Pressure IN - PSC Motorsports #6JIC x 16mm-1.5 I.F. Pressure Adapter for Toyota - PSC-SF06 $8
#6 JIC x 16mm-1.5 I.F. Pressure Adapter for Toyota-SF06 : Steering Hose and Fittings, Fittings Only | PSC Motorsports - performance steering components, power steering
This will require an adapter from the new fitting to your high pressure hose side. You might decide to replace this hose. I did not need this, and I did not inquire on what to use. Call PSC at 817-270-0102

Return Out - PSC Motorsports #6JIC x 17mm-1.5 I.F. Return Adapter for Toyota - PSC-SF07 $8
#6 JIC x 17mm-1.5 I.F. Return Adapter for Toyota-SF07 : Steering Hose and Fittings, Fittings Only | PSC Motorsports - performance steering components, power steering
Since this is low pressure and is going to a clamp-on hose, the adapter for this new fitting to my hose is as follows:
Fragola 209006-CL #6 90° Push Lock Fitting $15.50
Fragola 209006-CL #6 90° Push Lock Fitting

Hope this helps.
