Breakin complete.

I guess I should put this here now:

Running great, other than the radiator is leaking towards the top and needs replacing but keeping a gallon of coolant in the back has worked for the past 5,000 miles. On the next oil change I am going to have a Blackstone Labs oil analysis done just out of curiosity, but I have a feeling once I change this radiator and do TB job no reason it wont hit 600,000.

Would love a pic of the outside/inside of your rig

Would love to see more pics of the wear and tear items as well as documents of what you've replaced over the years. Incredible engineering from Toyota, my Benz has 80K miles and it's nearing the end of its life :(

To reply to both of you: I do not baby this car...at all. Trails about every-other weekend and during the week its my wife's daily driver for hauling our three kids. So cosmetically it isnt perfect--pin striping, original steps are beat to hell, rear wind deflector and part of the mount is MIA, rear quarter plastic trim piece stolen by a tree, rear vent melted three crayons into the carpet, etc... BUT! having said that pretty much anyone who gets into the vehicle is shocked it has 500K because with a quick wax and interior detail it looks the way most cars do in their mid 100Ks.

Engine bay...before I cleaned it:
IMG-3487 (1).JPG

Stuff that's been replaced is the usual, nothing out of the ordinary:

Steering rack, bushings and hoses, and tie rod ends
Shocks, control arms/ball joints, stabilizer bar links
Hood and Rear Hatch Struts
calipers have been disassembled and reassembled but never replaced
Under the hood:
AC/Heat was replaced @400K
couple timing belts
fan clutch, fan bracket
idler and tensioner pulleys
2 sets of spark plugs, 1 set of coils
Starter
Alternator
but valves, covers, gaskets, etc....never been touched.

Rust-wise, there is a small circle (about three fingers wide) of bubbled paint/rust in the lower right corner of the rear hatch window. where the runners meet the body/wheel well there's similarly sized rusty spots on the body panel. Small circle of rust on rear cross member, and the spare tire carrier is a little rusty. But that stuff is less miles and more time.

Thanks for Posting up. I am curous to see results of your blacksotne lab anaylsis.

Anyone interested, 500k miles with an average mpg of 14 is like $95,000 in fuel alone.

sobering for sure, and who the hell gets 14mpg. 500k/12 x $4.00 is $166,666. good thing I don't drive much

Gas is $2.20 in VA right now :) it starts to add up when you own this truck and drive a lot, also i'm getting 14mpg in mixed driving.

haha @boca1 I used $2.66/gal as the average for the 20 year lifespan.

Not sure if you told before but how long have you had it and how many miles did you put on it since ownership? Would love for my 07 to get there one day, shes' got a longggg way to go though.

Yeah, I really haven't had it very long--about a year--but I've put ~15,000 miles on it. But I think they were the hardest 15k yet! Lol. Previous owner you might think was one of those classic LC owners who scours Mud all day and had an extensive PM program, etc, etc. Nope, had absolutely no clue about cars, would just occasionally bring it into a Toyota dealer and do what they said but no more. He put all those miles on it driving into DC and back to VA everyday for 19 years. I think at the end he got a quote from Toyota to replace the steering rack, suspension components, and CV (boots were torn) and he decided to just buy another land cruiser.

I'm realizing I forgot a couple wear and tear items:
O2 sensors (pre-cat x2) once by PO once by me
CVs Im not sure but at least replaced one by PO, and then both were torn when I got it and I rebooted one and the other was Aftermarket so I put a new Toyota CV in.

I noticed the torn boot in March of this year and squirted grease into and cover the tear with flex seal tape (lol!) and drive for another 8K miles. I pretty sure it had been torn for longer than that but regardless, these things aren't as fragile as some people on here seem to make it out.

About 300k on ours. Just did oil change; timing belt and related; re-did front seats, new floor mats, sealed up sunroof, new heater tees; replaced the HVAC controls with used that works, and gave it to my son. It drives like a 2 year old car and looks great. Not bad for a 20 year old rig! I’d drive it across the county tomorrow. Engine is still turbine smooth.
