I sold my sweet 26" Giant NRS1 because it was now obsolete and would cost an arm and a leg to upgrade. As a replacement, I picked up a brand new 29" Giant Stance that a guy was selling because he had hurt himself at work. This is an entry level trail bike. Honestly, it is orders of magnitude better than my old XT/XTR/Fox equipped NRS. It's as if they totally rewrote the book on how mountain bikes are designed (compared to the old 26" bikes).

Agreed. I stumbled across this the other day. Old school mtb vs. gravel bikes .

I am terrified riding my old mtb bike down the trail now, and I swear I was faster 20 years ago than I am now, but don't have Strava data to validate. I'm pretty sure the 49-year-old-me on my current bike would kick the 20-something year-old me's ass in a bike race, uphill and down.

1200 MTB miles this year, 500 on my new Diamondback Release 3 since I picked it up in early August.

Southern Utah is awesome for year round riding!

Just checked my Strava and looks like I have 811 miles on my 2019 GG The Smash since April of this year! Not my biggest year but haven't touched her since the first week of November.

I need to get down there and ride. Went to Moab once and Grand Junction once this past year. Maybe next year's SW7* gathering I can do a combined bike/LC trip.

And my stats for the year, about half my miles are commuting, other half MTBing, 2500 miles on my 'new' Jet 9 this year.

And just acquired this a few weeks ago, hope to get out on some long back-road rides this spring. Steel frame, hydro-disc, home-bomb-canned paint (think I'll get it blasted and powder-coated) pretty good craigslist score.

I just got a wild hair and dragged my old 26" Gary Fisher out of the dusty back corner of the garage over the weekend. It hadn't been ridden in almost exactly 12 years, and I hadn't really given biking a second thought in all that time. So I've set about fixing it up, and I'm finding out just how much things have changed. They've really reinvented the sport in the past decade.

It cleaned up pretty good. I have about 8 hours of labor (working slow and researching) and $100 into it now, but it rides!

I did a 20 mile ride yesterday (which kicked my butt). It was mostly paved, but had about 3 miles of trails in the middle. The geometry is brutal with a long reach and 21" frame. I'm a big fella, and I was fitted for this bike way back when, but it was painful. It felt good on a downhill stretch though. Anyhow, new brakes are on order, because nobody stocks V brakes in stores any more. I'm not going to pour money into a borderline antique so I've got some decisions to make as to where this project is headed.

Decided to get back into mtb (albeit at a gravel-road pace). I bought a cheap GT 27.5" wheeled bike. Man that top tube is long compared to my ancient Scott 26". This will take some getting used to lol. It sure rolls easily, though

I'm going through the same thing with my 2000 Homegrown. It's a classic so I can't stand to see it collecting dust.

For now I'm just beating this thing up when the weather permits. Focus Mares AX (aluminum- I'll probably upgrade to the carbon CX in the next year) Disc, currently sitting on GravelKing SK 38s.

This is my main bike these days (Surly Pug Ops ~2014)

I have a nice Surly Instigator 2.0 frame but haven't gotten any other parts to put it together. Got the instigator as its still steel, is built around a front fork, and designed for mid fat tires. 3" vs the 3.8" on the pugsly which work well but are definitely slow rollers on long trips.

There is still 12 inches of snow on the ground here in Colorado so the bikes are in the basement. 2019 Santa Cruz Blur CC, 2020 Alchemy Arktos 29, 2018 Open Up, and of course the little mans bike is a Commencal Meta HT

Do your Fox Transfer seat posts rattle? I've had two that I've swapped out because they were rattling!! when the trail go rough it would just shake all the same time and make a really annoying noise.

No, I have not had any issues with rattling on my droppers. That said the alchemy is new, but the Santa Cruz I rode all last year with the fox dropper and no issues. I would be very annoying if they did rattle though.....

I’ve run a lot of the Transfers (own a bike shop) and have only had good fortune.

I’ll ask our mechanics if they’ve run across this issue and if so, the remedy.

Still riding this thing, but will be replaced with another Time in a week or two.

Have a few more in the stable, but these two seem to get all my attention these days. Twin Six Ti Standard Fat and a Ti Engin.
