Has anyone attempted this or thought about doing this? Ever since I saw the MIST and he had one on his FJ55 Made me want one. Seems pretty straight forward and they make a kit for an FJ60. You have one shot to get it right...

It would be the A ticket for finding a camp spot in the pitch black out in the boonies. I often wished I had one. Dearly. But too chicken to mess up my cruiser with the gnarly install. Takes a lot of courage, or not caring about the vehicle if you mess it up.
Also it's dang ugly. But super functional.

Nothing a good 1,000 lumen headlamp couldn't fix. zebra lights are water proof and we use them for caving.

I second the handheld idea. I've used them on boats to find the dock in the dark, daylight in your hand is right. On that 55 I think part of the reason it looks good is because it jives with all the other lights. Just a spotlight on the A pillar might look less good.

I had one on my 80 that the PO had installed. I thought it was funky at first, but learned to love it when out camping in the middle of nowhere with the scouts. The only downside was that he drilled through the sunroof drain :(

Not my cup of tea. With the amount of light a good LED flashlight puts out, I'm not seeing much need for this myself.

I would never drill a large hole into a pillar. Period. LE vehicles that have them have reinforced pillars - of Society!

I helped install a couple of these on a willys crackerbox wagon years ago if I remember correctly it only used a 1/2 inch hole in pillar.

The PO had installed one on my cruiser. It didn't work when by the time I got it and several key parts crumbled when I tried to rebuild it. I removed what I could and plugged the hole through the A pillar.

My biggest issue was that the handle for the light was pretty close to the steering wheel and made that corner feel really cramped. I regularly hit the handle with my hands when using the turn signals or going to full lock on the steering wheel.

I would have been able to tolerate it more if the light actually worked, but I'm sooo happy to have it gone.

YMMV

That’s for all the input. As cool as it is and functional the hole just isn’t worth it. Especially how narrow the a pillar is. Just going to use a nice LED Flashlight
