From experience I know this can be caused by low brake fluid. When I went to check mine I found the two wires cut. Dont know when and how this happened as I have not had anyone else working on it. I cannot seem to find where these two wires lead. I do have some open plugs near and if it goes to them I will likely need to source a new one. Can anyone post a pic please so I can chase this down......THANKS!!

I figured it out. I found one available from CruiserYard just down the road near Austin and matched up the plug in the pic with the open plug nearby. I am at a total loss on how this disappeared. It's like someone came in and cut it and stole it. Who knows. Anyway, not a cheap NLA part. Was lucky to find one.

The light is still on...I replace this cap (tested it first) and also checked my switch at the emergency brake. It does go dimmer when I let off the emergency brake when the engine is one and will completely go off when the key is turned but the engine is not running so I know its not that switch. Just living with it for now.

I’d recommend to check your alternator. I’ve had this issue before. You should still check everything first, battery, grounds, cables, etc.

maybe... the PO cut the wires because there is something gone wrong with the brake alert system - as you're discovering - and it was a workable hack to just cut the suckers

Looks like the cut ends of the wires are pretty corroded, which makes me think they have been cut for some time and you probably just hadn't noticed. Do you specifically remember those wires being intact? I would guess they were cut by a PO and are completely unrelated to your current brake warning light. As others have mentioned above, my warning light came on and had me completely perplexed until I happened to glance at the volte meter and realized the alternator had pooped the bed. Why the hell the brake light comes on and not the battery light still has me perplexed, I think it's explained somewhere here on Mud but I don't remember the electrical reasoning behind that electrical engineering screwup.

So that would mean never checked the brake fluid.
