Hello
I am looking for a part number for the solenoid plug on the outside of the a442f transmission on a 1996 FZJ80R. Or does anybody know the pin connector dimensions to replace the female pin connectors.
I unplugged it to do the manual shifting test as per the manual to diagnose my shifting problems only to discover that one wire is broken at the plug and another almost broken through. I am new to electrical but I assume you can replace the pins?
Cheers for any help

@ieatmyboogers2 : which model 80 Series are you working on: FZJ80R-GNPEKQ or FZJ80R-GNPNKQ ?

Can you post up a photo of the wire side (other end) of the connector, there should be some numbers there,
along with a better photo of the entire harness, location (left or right side), how many connectors on the other end of the harness?

Is this an A343F or A442F transmission?

Here's a good link to information for engine harness connectors and the harness repair manual, correct pigtails, etc

It is the FZJ80R-GNPNKQ left side A442F transmission solenoid plug. Will try to get a pic of the other side when I can. I am not looking for the complete harness. Maybe just the plug and splice the new one in if possible. If the plug is unavailable I would cut it out and try to replace the pins as the wires are broken right at the base of the plug. I can get the pins but was wondering if anybody knew the size of the actual pins as there is so many sizes 1.8,2,2.54,3mm etc. The male side of the plug is hard mounted to the transmission body and pretty difficult to get to to measure the pin size.

@OGBeno is the expert for that but based on one of his previous posts and the link above, IIRC, the part number for the connector will help find the correct connector but may also help you find the correct wires/pins.

You could search for the Wiring Harness Repair Manual in the 80 section of the Resources forum

Here's one:

Another for a 1994 with the A442 as mentioned by Malleus:

And a link to a harness repair thread with a photo of a (different) connector but it shows where the part number is located:

Look at the Wiring Harness Repair Manual; it's in the Resources section and covers all 80 series (and more, besides). The terminals are type 2.3II; you can get them from Ballenger motorsports in the US (the page is only an example, but they are the correct terminals); I assume they're available in the antipodes. Get the rear seal (plug) and a crimper, too.

The manual has instructions on how to properly disassemble the connector housings (that is, how to "depin" them).

A "repair wire" is available from Toyota; the part number for the various wire sizes is in the repair manual (there are also barrel connectors listed there, but you can get them at any parts store). It's a 160-mm or 500-mm long wire crimped onto a terminal; I would not recommend them, though. They were designed for service technicians at dealerships, who had to make wiring repairs. You still need to connect one end of the "repair wire" to the harness, so it's of no real benefit, IMHO. All you need is a new terminal. Cut the wire at the base of the terminal and crimp on a new one.

The 1996 US spec 80 series was only built with the A343F transmission, so you'll need to use a 1993 or 1994 EWD. Those were the only US models fitted with a A442F transmission.

Unfortunately, the wiring harness for the transmission isn't listed separately in the EWD, but the connector you want is "E2", on page 22 of the 1994 EWD. If you look on the back (wire) side of the connector housing, you will see a five digit number embossed there. Search the repair manual for that number. I think it's 11663, but you need to verify that. Those five numbers are the second half of the connector housing part number; the first part is "90980-" (same for all the housings on the 80).

Once you find the last 5 of the part number, CTRL+F the pdf for that number. You'll find the housing picture first, and then a table listing the specs for it. It'll look like this:

In this example, the housing 90980-11663 is a female housing, having (6) type 2.3II terminals and they are sealed. Here are the specs on the type 2.3II terminal:

The "sleeve" listed above is the tube type crimp connector I referenced above.
Part numbers are listed, but Toyota doesn't sell them anymore. They are sourced from Sumitomo, as are the seals, wire and connector housings.

Ballenger in the US sells mainly for the motorcycle market, but has various Japanese autos listed as well. If you don't want to try to source from here, try a Japanese motorcycle electrical supply house in your area. They will have these parts.

@Kernal beat me to it; he was posting as I was typing.

FWIW, there are two Wiring Harness Repair Manuals in the Resources section, one in the 80 forum and one in the 100 forum. Same stuff; the 100 series version is a later edition.

"Kernal beat me to it"

Yeah, but you know what you're doing.

Also, FWIW, you'll notice that the table doesn't list a male counterpart for this connector housing. This is typical for parts which were supplied to Toyota with connectors fitted to them, such as the solenoid sub-harness (pigtail). The same applies to all the sensors on the engine, as well as the injectors and the controllers (such as the ECM, cruise control module, etc.); you'll find the wiring harness connectors in the repair manual, but not the other side. The vendors were responsible for sourcing them for Toyota from Sumitomo.
